Is Advertising in the Forum Actually Allowed?

25GSchatz22

I've noticed that some people have advertised with forum topics before, but haven't gotten in trouble. Does that mean that it isn't an official rule that you can't advertise? Or can I just not find the evidence against it?

I believe that you can advertise your clubs through the Clubs and Teams section of the public forums and through private invitations. All other methods of club advertisement (private chats, General Chess Discussion, etc.) are reportable.

This is what former mod @David said about all this~

"You can create a post advertising something in the right category in the public forums and bump that every so often, but don't create multiple threads about it.

You can also mention it as a postscript when posting something relevant in a completely different thread, but don't do that in every post because that's (a) spam and (b) makes it clear that the main intention is advertising rather than contributing to the discussion."

Mentioning a club infrequently in Clubs and Teams is usually not an issue. Club invites elsewhere can be treated as spam.
