Is Chess.com slightly rigged?

I only say this because I have gone on a 6-12 run sweep against opponents with both lower and higher rating than mine. Then, the very next day, I would lose about 6-10  games in a row, and the cycle repeats itself. No matter what, the system seems to be keeping me at a relative stand still in terms of stats. Maybe this is just me, I don't know.

Looking at your stats, you have only played about 100 Rapid games. You mostly play Blitz.  With blitz, it's kind of hard to improve unless you're playing Rapid as well from what I have heard. ( I don't honestly know, I barely play on this site anyways but I will usually play rapid when I do)

According to the majority of General Chess Discussion, however, Rapid ratings will usually be more accurate relative to how strong you are. Along with the added benefit of increasing calculation abilities and adding  a bit more poison in your snakebite.

I used to play more Rapid, but there were a lot of engine users.

If they were using an engine, they wouldn't be playing. Just because you lost, doesn't mean they cheated. tongue.png

Look at your ratings, and especially your tactics rating.  Wild swings are to be expected.

Rigged? As though some chess.com programmer would spend the time to design a nefarious system solely for the purpose of preventing you from gaining rating points?  And this system alternates matching you with players whose ratings are artificially high then switches to ones who are artificially low? Why? Just to crush your spirit? Sure, that seems likely to me. Perhaps the reason your rating has stalled is because you are not working on improvement.

You do realize someone can access stockfish online while playing you on another device right? I have played in the past 15 and 30 min rapid chess and they literally take almost 2 min per move and it was 100 percent accurate. we were about 35 moves in and there was no error, just all excellent moves and their rating was lower than me.

yes it is rigged, glad others have picked up on it. was normal until about 4 years ago. Now they have an internal rating system which promotes "streaky" play. You will win 5-10 against higher rated opponents, then lose 5-10 against lower rated opponents, and there is nothing you can do about it. the patzer who is 400 points below you but plays highly accurate moves and spends half the time <-- and you will play against 5-10 of them in a row. if you play only a few openings, it's really easy to predict this trend. if you play an opening which has a normal response and an 'anti/counter' response, most of the time your opponent will play the normal response, however during these streaks, almost every opponent will play the 'anti/counter' move. highly predictable.

probably these streaks are to help improve your weaknesses, but the predictability is a bit tiresome.

Ratings of your opponents can be streaky as well as your own, so there will be times when your avg. opponent will be stronger than the ratings suggest.

If you lasted 35 moves against someone who used Stockfish for every move you should be a GM.

While the second part of your statement is true the first part is most likely not.

It is very easy to use an engine to "complement" you own games by simultaneously play online.

A smart "cheat" will simply use the engine for a few key moves where they are unsure or lost in complications. less smart is to "throw in a few dubious moves to take away any suspicion. One only needs 2 or 3 GM level moves to elevate to a superior game position.

The extent to which folks cheat on here do it I don't know.

I don't and I personally don't care if other do-because...well..."its not whether you win or lose, its how...blah blah blah."

An internet rating in this game means nothing in the end, its simply used to determine a level of play to pair up with others of similar strength to get some good games.

Plus theres no money in it-:-))

There is money in it, make you hit a wall to purchase access to the lessons. I suspect it is rigged, too many players I play with garbage ratings play like a GM and I've also noticed similar patterns in attacking my openings

There's non-premium member accounts on here well over 2800 rating, so not sure what ur on about. Premium chess.com membership isn't that much better at helping ur skills than say buying a chess book, or hiring a trainer.

Laskersnephew

Your rating stays the same because your strength stays roughly the same. Franly, if you're dumb enough to believe chess.com is "rigged," you're very unlikely to improve

You win a bunch of games in a row, you face better players, then you lose a bunch of games in a row, then you face worse players. If you go on a winning streak, which by chance is bound to happen, you are overperforming your rating, so a crash is likely based upon your true underlying strength.

Seems pretty simple to me.

By garbage ratings, what do you mean? Less than yours or what? Would you know how a GM plays? I'm not trying to be obnoxious, just wondering.

You are obnoxious so not sure what to tell you there.

I know my offline rating and it is vastly different from the chess.com rating. By garbage I mean players up until i played on chess.com player I normally easily beat. I've also noticed no difference in play between the 300 ratings variance of the opponents I play.

I just love how butt hurt and defensive people get any time people merely express an opinion...

Ok great... still irrelevant to my point of frustrate a player into pumping money into the site. If you haven't noticed it's a model that 99% of phone app games now use.

So it's the sites idea to make u blunder over and over again?

Can u tell us exactly what the site is doing? I know ur trolling, but at least try and make this a better attempt.
