i've played tens of thousands of games - and enjoyed almost all of them!
Is Chess Crap?
Thanks Erik, I admit I have played many many games and analyzed many positions, the concept is worrying, perhaps I played for too much time each day, however the social aspect is fun, when everyone gets together in vote chess and decides about a move based on analysis etc.
NUMBER 1:
-Opening traps are traps. Your opponent must fall into them for them to work. they would only be considered "inequal" (sic) because they have been memorized by one side and not the other. Middlegame traps are used and no one questions their legitimacy.
NUMBER 2:
-Chess was not invented to be a joke on intelligent people. Thats like saying baseball is a joke on athletic people; they are wasting their talents on a menial thing like throwing a ball around when they could be throwing grenades. ???
NUMBER 3:
Chess is a game. You can argue that it is more and to many, including me, it is, but it is just a game.
Furthermore, is the game really worth playing or does the game offer inequal chances at best with opening traps that always work? I would really like to see this topic covered briefly :/
Proof of trolling. If such a thing exists obviously nobody knows about it because there is such a thing as professional chess. You can't get to 1700's without knowing that there are such things as master games to study, and nobody who uses this site regularly can avoid noticing that the news section is constantly being updated with new top events.
mrguy888: that wasn't the main point, chess might be busted vs a 2800 player and you wouldn't know.
Yes, me and most regular members of this and any other chess site would know. Chess is not even busted between engines with estimated ratings over 3000. As to your other stated question, chess was invented much later than the stone age.
From the Hobbit, by JRR Tolkein:
- Roads go ever ever on,
- Over rock and under tree,
- By caves where never sun has shone,
- By streams that never find the sea;
- Over snow by winter sown,
- And through the merry flowers of June,
- Over grass and over stone,
- And under mountains in the moon.
- Roads go ever ever on
- Under cloud and under star,
- Yet feet that wandering have gone
- Turn at last to home afar.
- Eyes that fire and sword have seen
- And horror in the halls of stone
- Look at last on meadows green
- And trees and hills they long have known.
What's the point? The point is you never know. You never know where a road might take you, and that is an encouraging thought.
LoL yes very good, I think chess isn't crap if you enjoy it. If you lose all your games then obviously, chess is crap. And why do people need a supercomputer to calculate the correct move? Such a complex game with many paths.
I do P90X for my body, I play chess for my mind. It aids in memory, in processing ideas and information, and general mental organization. Chess is a very powerful tool, just like many other tools, you wouldn't simply use one, you would add it to a repertoire of other tools to create a well-rounded living experience that you enjoy and feel passionate about... if you don't feel it, find something that brings it out for you and do that.
Chess keeps the mind fresh whether you win or lose! Studies clearly indicate children that play chess are more analytical, and advance intellectually. All kinds of studies indicate playing chess helps delay dementia and Alzheimer's. Just spend a day with someone suffering from one of those diseases, and you will realize the importance of keeping your brain highly active as opposed to watching T.V., or playing some silly online games. The military requires advanced personnel to learn and play variations of chess for strategy building.
Even if you fail to meet your expectation of a decent player in your lifetime!~ You're still exercising your brain, and more mentally sharper then those around you! Lessons are learned with every failing move, if you're willing to learn!
Crap is something you scoop up when something defecates??
Is chess only good if you win?
