Is chess primarily psychological?

I wonder what part of chess is pure calculation and what part of it is psychological. I think Kasparov himself once said that if a human can beat a computer in even a single game then the human should be declared the victor as humans have many failings such as getting tired that computers don't have.

I certainly enjoy far more playing against a human than against Fritz or Shredder.

Do you think computers beat humans and IM’s beat club players in chess because of psychology?

Very well may be. It's definitely boring playing against a machine.
