Is it a disaster if Anand wins the candidates tournament?

I'm interested in knowing from what nation NM Pacifique got his NM title.  He is the only NM I've seen on this site of nine millions with an "international" designation.

Judging by his English skills, I don't think he is a US or Canadian NM.  Just wondering.

If he got the NM title in the former USSR area, he must have at least IM level.

And btw, account "johnmusacha" has very infamous history. You can't count yourself among chess players anymore. Considering these facts, you are pretty cheeky.

Thanks for the "If".  Do you have any evidence that this person was from the former Soviet Union, or are you purely speculating?

Logic.  Facts.  Important.

Chess.com stuff has evidence on my identity. And don`t expect me to give my personal details to trolls like you.

johnmusacha

No, I understand.  You obviously know your stuff, and congrats on the IM norms.

My statement was directed at "Polar Bear"'s ridiculous and nonsense comment, which added nothing more to the discussion than me likewise saying:

"IF I was on the cover of the 1987 Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, I must have been a famous model in the late 80s."

Don't worry. Although not entirely sure, I think I know who is Pacifique and yes, his homeland is related to former USSR. Not speculating at all, it is more than probable. I can't tell you details.

johnmusacha

That is kind of creepy.  Is Pacifique aware that you are stalking him?

This thread is like a telenovela.  Arguments, racism, and intrigue all built from an unsound premise.  Emotions are high on all sides.  How will it all turn out?  Tune in next page...

Anand vs Andreikin, a really exciting game:

A lot can happen in the months leading to November. Things I'd watch for post-Candidates would be:

  •  Carlsen's continued + expected dominance in tournaments he plays in.
  • If Anand is the challenger, a chance to see him place 1-2 in tournaments he plays in (unless he's going to hide-n-prepare) and more importantly: if he's building up any endurance/stamina to survive the kind of games Carlsen will likely throw at him again.

That will let me know if it will be an exciting fight or a repeat of Chennai.

Playing it safe is one thing .. but the tired/fatigued comment he made after the Andreiken game is not something an Anand-fan would like to hear  repeatedly in the months leading to a rematch. (I'm sure Carlsen got a chuckle out of that)

If in the next 4 world championships, Anand won one, Carlsen won two, and either Aronion, Kramnik, or Caruana won the other, how would that be bad for chess ?

I doubt it will happen quite like that but, I tend to think that always having one completely dominant player, is more likely to discourage the interest of others, if they think their favorite doesn't stand a chance.

Anand-Carlsen II is more likely to be similar to Alekhin-Bogolyubov II or Karpov-Korchnoi II (without the psychic warfare) than Botvinnik-Tal II.

I'd love to be proven wrong. I would have bet on Tal in the rematch in 1961, except for his illness. He should have had the match postponed.

You know, Rocky suggested to Apollo Creed that he postpone his match against Ivan Drago in Rocky IV (1985).  Creed did not postpone the fight, and you all know what happened.

Carlsen vs Anand rematch coming later this year!! Congratulations to Vishy and all his fans.

Fantastic Anand!

I´m glad that I never bet, I would have lose my money since the only bet available that I saw was to pick the winner, my bets would have been for Kramnik and Svidler.

I wanted the top 3 to be Kramnik, Svidler and Anand.

Let´s see if the World Championship bring us some memorable games, it´s difficult with a short match, but well, maybe some game for his memories (for both players).

Go Anand!

Ok. So Carlsen is obviously Ivan Drago here, and Anand is Apollo Creed. Who is Rocky here?

Garry Kasparov. http://archive.mid-day.com/news/2008/oct/311008-world-greatest-chess-player-Garry-Kasparov-tips-for-Viswanathan-Anand.htm

Rocky gave that advice to Creed in the dressing room.

Also, Kramnik would play the role of Clubber Lang.

Anand played at a 2850 Perf for the tournament! 14 straight games against super Grandmasters and not 1 lost game.

A 2850 perf rating in the WC match will likely lose it for him.

Yes but only 5.5 t0 4.5. That means it could go either way as he is right in the mix.
