Is it possible to become GM in ONE day of intense training, starting from scratch?

Of course.

This is what Deepmind did with alpha zero, reaching above world class skill in a matter of hours.

Well if you happen to be human, it is highly doubtful you can do something similar.

Sure, if your name is Alpha Zero.

That's like asking if you could become a concert pianist after one day of lessons.

Definitely. All you need to do is to work hard and to believe in it. Don't let the haters discourage you.

Yes...all you need to do is hang up one of those motivational posters that says: "If you can dream it, you can achieve it"

On a tidally locked planet, you could become a GM in a single day.

... one day lasts forever, on a tidally locked planet.

I'm glad some people aren't negative and know the value of hard work and self confidence happy.png

It takes years of dedication, practise, reading chess books, tactics and strategic training, coaching, playing tournaments etc. Unless you are a child prodigy...then it still takes a number of years...just less years. It is completely impossible to become a GM in a day! Lol. If only. Generally genius in an endeavour is spotted when the person is young. Think of Mozart as an example. Exceptional talent manifests at ages like 5 or 6 as an example. Sometimes a parent is a very good player and sees the talent and helps take it further. It's a known fact that learning a sport or skill from a young age accelerates achievement. These players are now reaching GM level in their early teens. If you are not a child prodigy I imagine it takes a very long time, with much dedication and drive required. It stands to reason. There are no short cuts to success, achievement and excellence.
