It would be funny if the mom's OP threw him out of the house and he had to stopped trolling around in chess forums. Really, 22 years old and wasting your time like this? Lol.
Is it possible to become GM without coaching ?

You do know brains work different? And that a 4 year old kid doesnthave to work until he is 18 or so?

Some modesty wouldn't harm much. Start asking "can I become a CM?". There are a quite a few steps to climb until you are in sight of GM title.

I'm 55 and hope to be a professional basketball player but am only 6' 1". If I stand on Kotov's 'How to blah like a Grandmaster' trilogy I add about three inches to my height. I'm not prepared to listen to any naysayers and I'll stay on this forum and argue my case !

I think all of the naive beginners who ask these questions don't understand one thing: You can work 12 hours a day on chess for your whole life, but if you have no talent you won't make GM, and even if you do, chess professionals often sleep on their friend's floor and sometimes make only about $15,000 a year.
Besides, I think people massively underestimate the difficulty. It takes concerted study just to get to 1700.

Dude you can do anything if you put your mind to it.
Wonderful, I am going to grow two extra hands and become a concert pianist.
I think I might live forever as well.

It always has to come back to music for you...

Now you are just being facetious
Don't be a hater 2Q1C

Kasparov learned Chess when he was 7 and he became World Champion at 22 years old. It took him 15 years of intensive study with strong top soviet coaches to become World Champion, and it took him 29 years to reach his peak rating.
He made it to Chess Master (Soviet Union title) in 1978, which I guess is the same as GM now, so it took him 8 years to become GM, being a child, and working in Botvinnik's school since he was 10.
You on the other hand are already 22 years old, should be working for your own food, and I doubt you will ever study chess intensively with top coaches for more than 8 years (you are no longer a kid so learning chess will be harder for you).
I like what the CM Coleman said, get a job/study, and then worry about chess, no doubt you can become a very strong player if you play for 22 years but not a GM, not when real life hits you and you need to start working/studying/worrying at other things.

I am willing to sacrifice everything. All I want to do ever is play chess.

2Q1C: I think you're badly mistaken about what it takes to be a GM.
The chances of you becoming a GM are roughly the same as my chances of playing professional baseball. Basically, zero for all practical purposes. Life is practical, and even if you have the slightest chance of becoming a GM, you're what? 22? That means living in your mom's basement until you're 32, generating zero income. There's a significant possibly that your mom will get sick of it and stop taking you to chess tournaments, as soon as 6 months in. It's also possible that you will just be made to get your own place, still with zero money. Both of these end the whole thing and waste at least a year that you could use doing other wonderful things. Then if you somehow break 2200, you do a year of half-time chess coaching (becoming 33) and you still aren't in a great place - living on $16000 a year (assuming full enrollment at $20/hour) with a high school education which you slowly forget, and using up 20 hours a week to keep a roof over your head. The only thing that can improve your lot is increasing your rating. However, the chances of that happening when you started as an adult and are in your twelfth year are microscopic.
Let's not forget this: You aren't guaranteed 2200 either.

Dude you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

Hey, you started it.
Anyway, check your challenges, if you want to get some good practice by crushing an old patzer like me.
It would be interesting if 3 or 4 years from now OP posts "Hey guys! What's up" in this same thread with a title to his name.
