Your neighbors know your name. Your school. Your job. Your friends.
Maybe local phonebooks aren't like they used to be -
because not so many people use landlines anymore.
And if you do - you might have to pay extra to be unlisted.
Even with a cellphone - somebody can look you up?
But here on the internet - its the whole world knowing your name.
7 and a half billion different personalities. Potentially.
Then think - what percentage of crime nowadays - is internet-based?
Whether its white-collar crime ... or physical or violent crime.
Then the whole picture - begins to appear.
For more "picture" one can try googling like this:
"what percentages of various crimes nowadays -
either occur on the internet - or begin from there?"
Is posting your real name on here safe

I once knew an unfortunate guy called Grimsnatch Dingleplod, believe it or not-I have often wondered what became of him.
I'm not sure all respondents are taking this thread entirely seriously.
"Not sure"? ![]()
But its often better to have fun than a lot of "solemn and serious" ..
I enjoy getting at the truth of things though.
Mystery is good - but its a fun opponent too.
Is it exactly the wisest choice to put your full name on here? I was wondering because a lot of people do it (not including me)
just thought to quote.i had a friend here.. who even chosen his home country a different one.. since he is worried about people tracking him
Lots of people put up a phony flag - city - whatever.
They even make it obviously phony - to avoid lying.
My address is - 330 Venus Street. In the Mars colony.
My phone number is 1 800 speed-of-light.
When starting a new email address -
its one of those few times that false information is a good idea.
I live 500 feet underground - at 500 feet above sea level - in central Antarctica.
Above ground - there's 10,000 feet of solid ice for additional protection. The polar ice cap.
Safe. Doesn't "break the ice" that much though ...

Hey I knew a guy named Grimsnatch Dinglepod! I believe he runs the ring toss game at the carnival in Hoboken. The NJ phone has about 37,452 Dinglepods listed but they all know each other.
These days, the less identifiable information that you put out there about yourself, the better. Putting your full name on this site won't guarantee problems for yourself but it might be an issue if someone were to use that piece of information to figure out more important information about you (Possible scenario, getting your full name leads to getting your facebook account information. On your facebook account, you do something like post about a vacation you are going on. Thanks to the information that you have broadcasted, you have provided a target and a window of opportunity for someone to rob you).
Consider posting personal information online like a weakness in chess. It is better to avoid creating any weaknesses in your position, than to assume that your opponent will not be able to take advantage of the weaknesses you create.
And for those who might say something like "I have nothing to hide," I strongly encourage you to read up about swatting.
