Is premium worth it?
My objective is to learn, I’m on almost every day and have heard that the videos are just the same content that I could find on youtube
it supports the site, tho they do get ad revenue. I think it's cool that they archive all of our games. if I wasn't homeless and selling my body for beer I'd probably sign up for at least a month.
im sort of new to this site and am being bombarded every time i go to the learn section with ads for people premium, and I want to hear others opinions on it, and yes, I am aware of the free trial
Depends on what your chess goals are. If youre here just to play, then no. If youre serious about improvement, then yes.
It depends what you want to get out of it. There are excellent videos like IM Danny Rensch's tactics series: Fork... Pins... etc. You Must Know, GM Simon Williams series on the London System, etc.
On the other hand, there are many good videos for free on YouTube. Still, I find the organization within chess.com to be worthwhile.
You also get unlimited Tactics Trainer problems, though, again, you can get that free elsewhere.
I believe you can get more information through chess.com's Opening Explorer with Premium Membership, including examples of how you have played each move of various games and the results.
Those are the main things I get out of Premium. Another benefit, which I believe to be wrong, is that Premium Members are put automatically on vacation before they exceed the time limits on daily games. That directly affects losing or not losing and unfairly gives Premium members a potential edge over non-Premium members.
if I had extra time I would've paid for the lessons. its definitely easier and more interesting than a boring book. and you learn a lot.

There is no substitute for active study. Using books, with a real board and pieces is better than online studying.
It depends on what you plan to do on chess.com. If you just plan to play, play and play and show off your premier membership then it's an obvious no. If you are serious on improving and beating Magnus Carlsen then go ahead!
If you pay for GOLD annually, it is $2.42/month. You get 750 tactics training puzzles, 150 lessons and the DEEP computer analysis to help you figure out your games for the entire month for about 8 pennies a day. If you upgrade to the platinum, you get 300 lessons and all the tactics training you can stand for under 14 cents a day. If you're serious about improving, it's not really a question unless you choose to hunt everywhere for totally free content.
The diamond I am not quite sure on. If we got 1 video a week or even monthly with the other plans, we could at least sample the quality. I'm not sure how good they are for the additional expense for the videos. GOLD and PLATINUM definitely have good value for someone who will be on here regularly using the features.
