Is the Chestnut Pro Worth the Price? Any Good Alternatives?

I've been considering getting the Chessnut Pro, but at its current price, I'm wondering if it's really worth it. For those who own it, how has your experience been? Is the build quality, responsiveness, and overall usability good enough to justify the cost?

Also, are there any solid alternatives that offer similar features (especially online play integration) but at a lower price point? I'd love to hear recommendations from those who have used different electronic chessboards.

Thanks

Joel

Hi Joel

I‘m a proud owner of a Chessnut Pro for a few days now and I do love this board! I think it is fully worth its‘ price, too.

If you want a tournament size set there’s not much alternatives like the boards from German vendor Millennium or from the Dutch vendor DGT. The Millennium boards are high quality but pricier, too. Plus they still have not properly integrated Bluetooth and USB-C or a battery so you‘ll have to additionally buy them and always have them around while playing!

Looking at what’s available on the market and my requirements (tournament size and made from wood) to me the Chessnut Pro is the best option.

During my research I was leaning towards - and almost ready to spend a thousand Euro on it - a quality-made-in-Germany Millennium 55 set but having to handle the required additional components kept me from pulling the trigger.

The more I play with the Chessnut Pro the more I enjoy the fact that I don’t need a power cord and additional devices each time I want to play. All I need is the Chessnut Pro and a smartphone (or tablet) laid aside to bridge the board to either here or LiChess via Bluetooth LE.

You’re welcome. If you‘d like any detail pics of the actual board or pieces just let me know.

SacMonster13

thanks a lot! the pieces look premium

SpaceAceOne

Indeed they do. Chessnut is also offering a set of "Premium" pieces for the Chessnut Pro but I think the "standard" pieces already look and feel very nice!
