Agree, he'll be back.

But it does sound like RedHotpawn.com (correspondence online chess) would be a much better match for what he's interested in. I usually keep one long game going - sometimes I get some good endgame practice with it that you never get to deeply analyze in blitz.

There's nothing wrong with this site. The correspondence here would be fine for him. It meets the demands of everything he's moaning about namely time and that he wants to use an actual chess board.

The only problem with CC is, you get into a habit of taking on A LOT of games. It becomes unproductive. I'll be deleting this account and starting a fresh and restricting my CC games to a total of 3 because I have 3 chess sets. The only thing that's stopping me is transferring my membership to a new account.

Why can't you limit yourself to 3 games with your current account? What does a new account gain you?

Because I've been trying to limit my CC games to three for ages now and it still hasn't happened yet. You get talking to other players in other time controls and they send you a game, you recieve random friend requests out the blue with a game, login drunk and you decide you want a fresh game etc etc. I'm struggling to say no and before you know it the list is longer and longer and it becomes too unproductive. I just want to drop it all, start a fresh with my 3 chess boards and aim for quality instead of quantity.

You need AA.

As you mentioned AA, we always must be aware about chess addiction.

Read the threads below.

I think "bertrout" realized he was becoming a chess addict.

I should be aware because I may be addict to anti-chess-addiction.

That makes sense. Are you going to do any better with a new account though? I guess you could tell people you're trying to limit yourself to three games and ask them not to send you challenges. The decent people won't send you a challenge after that and you can block the others without compunction. EDIT: I guess that won't help with the logging in drunk part, but then a new account won't either.

I'm not really worried about keeping my games down. You say it becomes unproductive, but I'm just playing for fun, not really trying to be productive. I'm not bothered about getitng up to GM level. If you're seriously trying to improve your chess, then maybe it matters.

If you used  chess.com for five years,as you stated, and have so many complaints, you should have left long ago. Most of  what you complain about is not true,or can be easily remedied. I think this person is a crank.

You can play any time-control you wish in live chess. Just choose the "custom" option and

Woah woah woah. Slow down there buddy. Not everyone got a fancy degree at tech U. I bet you impress your friends with your techy jargon, but not me. Nope.

Here's my story: So, i bought a computer 20 days ago and since then i only play chess. When i don't play i imagine chess. I asked a girl if se wants to have chess. I was calling her Polgar because she is hungarian. I only think about chess. I finally slept with that girl. I kept telling her that she looks like a queen. That for her i'd be a pawn. When we did it and i was towards the end i was yelling "chess, chess, aaah, chess" and in the end i said "checkmate!" I need a solution. What do you think about my problem? What do you think about Alekhine's Defence?

To be fair I never liked computer chess. I like real chess against a human being on an actual board where I can feel the pieces. And I'm not very computer savvy, I just play online for convenience. That's why I'm giving up on chess.com. The interface is atrocious, I'm staring at a gleaming white screen until my eyes water, hunched over in pain. If there are ways to change the time/screen size and colour etc. I have no idea what those are and I'm tired of searching and wasting my time to find them. I've been using chess.com for like 5 years! I don't always want to play an incredibly fast, difficult game. I just want to veg and get a little practice in. But chess.com wants to tell me how long my game should be, who I should play, what my board should look like and what their rating should be. Those are my choices not yours. Don't even get me started on the pitiful time cheats. I feel like I'm playing at Washington square park against the hustlers. My move=my time. Guys can make 10-15 moves in a second?? I don't have the energy nor the nature to learn how to cheat so I can compete and the longer the game the more pain to my eyes and body. There seems to be no unlimited time control, of course if I did that there would still be cheats. I'm leaving chess.com permanently. You need a total overhaul in my books. Buh-bye.

I encore the part about finding it hard to play on a computer. You should check out my forumn I pposted about whether it was harder to play on screen or on board. Its SO hard looking at 2D pieces!

But I still play because if I'm going to leave. I want to hit 1500. I'm sooooo close to reaching 1200 btw!!

Depending upon what you want out of an online server - and if you're only going to pick ONE - Chess.com may not be the best for you. It would vary by person. That certainly doesn't take anything away from Chess.com, though.

What server are you going to try instead? I play on everything and I would have to say that if you're not going the Chess.com route, then ICC is a no brainer. No reason to look elsewhere after Chess.com unless you want to play rated FIDE games from home and then you can go with FIDE Online Arena.

PlayChess is great but ...just a second class ICC basically and Lichess isn't going to be your cup of tea since the entire site is free and basically caters to casual, blitz players.
