Joey D'Vivre and Vote Chess

Hello all!  I guess by now you all know about what happened to Joey.  This brings up an issue that affects a wide swath of the site, since Joey was apparently heavily involved in "vote chess" and was the captain and influential member of quite a few teams.  Joey and I used to trade good-natured barbs about vote chess (with him saying my teams were "pathetic" and "laughable") but not until his "retirement" did I see just how involved he was in so many vote chess teams.

So, the question is, does this cast doubt on any Vote Chess results or discussions?  If so, what is to be done?

Thanks.

What happened to Joey?

johnmusacha

Out of respect (I actually liked the guy) I'd rather not talk about that here.  I don't even know if the rules allow me to say it.  But Joey's gone.

bigpoison

He was an engine monkey.

batgirl

I see.  Thanks.

NimzoRoy

Of course it casts doubt on any TVC games he was involved in and nothing more will be done IMHO he already got expelled; I sincerely doubt if the TVC teams he was on are going to resign every game he was active in.

johnmusacha

Yes, I sincerely doubt that would happen in practice as well.  But what should be done?  Especially on teams where Joey was basically calling the shots.

NimzoRoy

Nothing should be done...because nothing is going to be done. It's not like we're talking about an outbreak of Avian Flu or Global Warming here...I suppose chess.com could just forfeit every team in which a member was caught cheating, which would probably spell the end of TVC games here.

echecs06 too hahahaha RIP smurf

Lol, what? Hilarious! So that big running mouth was a cheater?

F***ing hilarious!

breakerofwind

Nothing should be done, the games continue and the players vote for the moves.  It's a team concept and one guy out shouldn't affect the rest of the game.

NimzoRoy

strange way to conceptualize climate destablilization I must say. kenpo

Actually I was trying to say that cheating here at chess.com wasn't exactly as important as global warming...

robotjazz

I have mixed feelings about the guy(in forums), at times he was extremely annoying, but then other times he made some really good points and it was hilarious to see him argue with people. As far as chess is concerned, a cheater is a cheater and I'm glad they dumped him.

Well chess life goes on

bronsteinitz

Who else can we badmouth today? Nice, relevant,...

red-lady

I miss him being around here. He wasn't always polite and he really had his moods. I called him a grumpy bunny and I still think that is a bit who he was. He knew damn much about chess though even if he turns out to be cheating in some games. I don't know what he did wrong and I'm not going to judge him. If his rating here was so important for him, I think he didn't have much to look forward to in real life. And that is the most sad thing of it all.

Vote chess will go on, there is no way chess.com can adjust all the games Joey had his part in...

bronsteinitz

Wow, you make a lot of us very jealous now. Being called a bunny by the red lady is not a minor achievement in life. No wonder there was not much left to look forward to..

red-lady

:-)

Well, yes...... Pfff since the bunny is gone, all I have left is a muffin. I'll have to look for another victim ;)

bronsteinitz

The muffin says that he's a cordless marionnet. Let us know the results of your search. Hope you find some nice ones :-)
