i thought that was Payne Stewart?
Charlotte, yes, Payne Stewart died from an airline accident. And I quote Wikipedia about John Denver "Denver was killed on October 12, 1997, when his experimental Rutan Long-EZ plane, aircraft registration number N555JD, crashed into Monterey Bay near Pacific Grove, California, while making a series of touch-and-go landings at the nearby Monterey Peninsula Airport.[47] Denver was the only occupant of the aircraft."
I have very fond memories of Monterrey Bay from the early 1990s -- first time I was in CA with a special person.......

I think he was 54. Not elderly, to be sure, but young?
Although HIGH doesn't refer to his great love of bowls - it refers to that funny stuff that DENVER is regularly on.

Too old to die young.
The cause of the John Denver crash was tragic. He bought the plane from someone who built it himself and included some eccentric design modifications. One of these was that the switch for the reserve fuel tank was relocated in an awkward place behind the pilot's left shoulder. This was concluded to have been the cause of the crash, when a routine action became awkward enough to cause Denver to lose control.
My all-time favorite singer who sang my all-time favorite song, Leaving On A Jet Plane!! He was the original singer of the song.
Personally, i prefer Annies Song and Country Roads..."almost heaven, West Virginia..blue ridge mountains, Shanandoah river.." hmm mm hmm ..
