IMBacon… I wont gain anything doing this man... so if you have nothing nice to say... just don't comment. Thanks. Beat Stockfish first before you say anything bad.

What are you talking about?  I beat Stockfish level 30 on the sun, while churning butter.

Well, nobody cares about some screenshots. It's not that anybody wants proof (because, why care?) and a screenshot is no proof anyway. But it would be interesting to see the game played here on chess.com. Show us!

I do want proof.  I want to see how far this new account will go to "prove" this.  Its not like this schitck hasnt been done before here, but what the heck!  Why not rehash the oldies but goodies.

Yes, maybe we have to live with that happy.png

Maybe we should just challenge him and have his kid play in G/30, as blitz isn’t good enough proof of a chess rating.

...and the trolls start coming out. All I want is an answer to the question... are there online games that give legit fide or uscf rating. I don't need proof or validation if my kid can play or not. As any parent, I was just surprised he beat stockfish. Try to lift other people up especially kids. Peace!

My 9 y/o keeps on drawing a level 20 stockfish and beats level 20 chess.com. Travel to chess events takes so much time and money. Are there official online tournaments he can join to accumulate uscf or fide ratings? Thanks for input!

Why don't you let your kid play here against real people?   You can play some online chess that is rated by the USCF or FIDE, but those ratings don't really have any more validity than any of the online ratings, including the ones that are generated here.

online ratings become more accurate and valid than OTB ratings because it is a much larger sample size.  the same rating system is more confident after 1000 games than it is after 40

Correct!

More sample games = more accurate rating!

At least 100 games is necessary to get accurate ratings!

Unfortunately, most people cant play 100 OTB per year.

@ergo_ergo It's simple: You said there is this chess.com game and now, maybe, some people are curious. If you don't want to share the game, it's fine, but you could at least tell us.

Exactly.  And that is why 2600 on <insert chess site here> means a lot more than 2600 FIDE for example

“Trolls”? I was just telling the people who are hung up on how good your kid is that if they are so suspicious, they should see for themselves rather than saying you are downright wrong. In fact, it can be very helpful to play against good players, because analyzing games is one of the most critical things you can do. Now, about your original question. While you can do UFSC rates ICC events and on this website, and while it is somewhat accurate, playing in Over board tournaments (OTB) adds so much experience. It seems that that really isn’t an option, so play some online games here, get some books, look over games, and competition in online rated events is the best course at the moment. IF you can do OTB tournaments, by all means, do them if you can.

For years their was a USCF C player that was consistently over 2700 here.  Surprisingly his account was finally closed for cheating.  So no...An online rating of 2600 is not more credible than an established OTB rating of 2600.

Yes it is,  because online players play more games than their OTB counterparts.  There is cheating in OTB as well,  and probably MORE of it because I hear of more high profile cases in OTB than online.

We will agree to disagree.

ergo_ergo

How about the FIDE online ARENA? Is that legit? I'm asking all these just because I have pointed out a while ago that it is very time consuming going to OTB. But if there's really no option then we just have to. keep going.
