Guys, try [another site - MOD].  Seriously, everything there is free.  It only makes sense, because why have someone pay to enjoy the art of chess?  It is to be enjoyed freely.  Also, they have unlimited tactics and videos, all for free.  Screw this stupid money drain website.  100$/year for tactics?  Really?

BTW:  Go ahead and block my account Chess.com.  I quit here

I'm quite sure [another site - MOD] isn't free of cheaters. It might be a worse cheater-infested one.

Thanks, anyway. I might join but I won't leave chess.com.

There are plenty of other chess sites out there that do several things better than Chess.com.

I think, instead of treating this as a taboo in the forums, it could be beneficial for the team here to listen to the complaints they receive, rather than outright ignoring them.

My point is that everyone wants the best value; if that can be found elsewhere we will go elsewhere.  Instead of pretending better chess sites don't exist, why not make Chess.com the best?

I have accounts on both. I'm more active here though.

Let's mutiny this forum into a "chess.com here's what you can do better" and maybe they'll listen! I'll have a go- 3+, KOTH, and 960 is (it already here?) on Stockfish. (censored) only does 3+, and after that, chess.com will be high above the rest.

Just a reminder, advertising for other sites and comparisons, even positive, are not permitted.  Passing references, such as a link to a game you played or mentioning your name on the other site, are OK.

Feedback on what chess.com could do better is also fine, as is criticism on what's not being done well.  You don't need to say "lichess does this" to do that.

I'm not sure why you think chess.com doesn't have features in place against it?  People get banned all the time.

I notice CrucibleOfSkill hasn't closed their account yet. Hmmm....

The best chess site doesn't necessarily make the most money, and that's what chess.com is, a business.

Things like their blitz championship finals, Naka vs Carlsen, i.e. great advertising, that's what brings in the money (at least short term, and most businesses are myopic like this).

As a funny example, think of the BYP, or the book Rapid Chess Improvement. Nothing good and nothing new respectively, but with proper advertising, they attract a lot of people who are willing to spend money.

I suppose just the fact that Chess.com is a business is primarily what ruins it for users like me - it makes money a bigger factor than chess itself.  For example if I can find a tactics trainer, or a deep analysis engine, or a live blitz server elsewhere on the www's for free, it's in Chess.com's best interests to try stop me from finding them.

Is money more important than quality, accessible chess to a site that's literally called "Chess.com"?  Does Chess.com recommend users unable to pay to leave in search of a more worthwhile site we can use cost-free..?

On the unrelated topic of reporting people, this has been bugging me for a while.  I've encountered a less-than-savoury user more than once on this site; of course I can block them easily but this doesn't stop them from being a zwischenzug to someone else.  There doesn't seem to be any means of reporting such individuals to some higher authority than myself, and all attempts I've made to that end have failed (as far as I'm aware).

At the top of the page, there's a button marked help. Click it, then click report abuse.

I've tried that before and nothing came of it.

It's quite possible that action was taken behind the scenes.  If someone was abusive and you reported them, maybe they got warned, or got muted for a few days.  There's no guarantee that action taken will be public knowledge, and for a first offence we don't generally jump to severe consequences except in extreme cases.

Also, it helps to include evidence.  Screenshots are good, as are links to forum posts, etc.

Yea, they do take action. Usually it's just a warning, but I've always gotten a response.

There is often more to the story than you are aware of when someone is banned.

If someone was banned for causing trouble at another account, you wouldn't necessarily know.  If someone was banned for things done in private messages, you wouldn't necessarily know.

And then someone who was banned might lie about why they were banned.  That happens all the time.
