Live Chess is fixed? Yah right..

So! I finally decided I'd play a game on Chess.com's live chess.  I watched with disbelief as my opponents clock ran down to 0 from 10 minutes after about 4 moves, and then I was promptly credited with a loss.  That's right - You read correctly - A LOSS.  During that period of waiting for him to lose, I could see that I was still connected to the Live Chess server, as people were chatting in the room.  I actually thought I WAS WINNING ON TIME.  Guess not.

I'll go back to playing Deep Fritz, at least it's a sure thing I won't be disconnected from it - and it gives a solid game all the time.

Wake me up when you actually fix Live Chess.

At least the message boards work.

Regards.

I have to agree.  Attitudes like that never get good responses, and there are much better way of lodging a complaint.  Keep up the great work here.

You know, what - my apologies.

You're all correct.

I can't stay mad at Eric, he's too damn handsome.

Except to you - to you I don't apologize.  In fact, I fart in your general direction.

Just played my first "Live Chess" on the new interface...  My connection was interrupted three times, but the game merrily went on.  NICE! This was one of the biggest complaints from the previous version (as evidenced by the number of Forum discussions), and it seems to have been neatly corrected.

My thanks to the Chess.com staff!  Keep up the good work!

Good to hear!  Perhaps my experience was an anomaly!

erik

do you remember if you saw their last move - c4 ? that would be a bug if you didn't see their move... very curious. we'll watch to see if this happens more.

I probably have the fastest internet connection around and I never got disconnected from chess live until today. I have FIOS and paid for the most expensive speed. It's insanely fast and my kids can play those Xbox 360 shooting games with no time delay or lag. BTW- I just got a message that the server is down.

Don't panic. You have no idea how bad Xbox live can be at times, and Xbox live is not free. Live chess is free.

Fianjello

i can't even log in to live chess=(

InevitableDefeat101

right now it says that the live chess server is down ): im going through withdrawl

Live chess? What live chess. I like the old way far better than "spinning square loading icon chess" which last for several minutes.Cry If you can get in, don't count on being able to play anyone.

Also for me, it was usually the other guy that got disconnected. I never really had any major problems apparently as much as some people did. But the clock sync was always off, which did cost me on a lot of Quick games.

Kupov

I can't get past the loading screen. Bummer.

well i played three games, one got screwed up...but in general i think i will wait a day or two....keep up the good work guys i am looking forward to play.

I have to disagree to an extent. Some of the staff are no more helpful than that random other guy (who actually answers your questions). Chess.com has many advantageous features over other sites but the disadvantages are blatant and colossal, such that an 'inferior' site can easily be preferred. Mainly what I'm talking about is live chess and server issues:

The new live chess is probably worse than it was before. Earlier it actually had some functionality despite the notorious disconnections. I note that chess.com seems to struggle with handling the disconnections, an issue that no other site I know of suffers from. Whether this be due to insufficient serverside arrangements or simply inefficiencies, I wouldn't know. What I do know is that chess.com seems to fail in recognising that live chess is what a large number of people come here for.

I as a free user have limited right to complain but remember there are paid members who expect better, perhaps just for the basic live game.

I have a lot of faith in this site.  I've been playing here off and on for about 8 months now.  I used to pay 12.99 a month because I wanted to help support a potentially great chess web site.  Honestly, I've been disappointed, so I switched to the free membership until they work the bugs out.  It is definately worth free--no doubt.

I just don't understand how you can have a chess server with a big sign that says this site doesn't really work well, and you will get disconnected.  That sign has been up for many months.  Someone out there should be able to make it work.

I know they'll get the bugs worked out eventually, and I'll be waiting to pay my 12.99 a month again.  Until then, it's still worth free, but not a penny more.

It seems the new version has fewer features then the old one. Like I can't select a column for 'play as' color, so I can see at the top games where I can play as black. It's like the same thing, but less.

I'm really upset with the new version of live chess. I appreciate the people running this site trying to improve on it, but I'm getting clocks running backwards, disconnections left and right, long loading times...I can't even see or add any seeks now and my chat wont even enter. I just payed to be a premium member, and I really hope these bugs are temporary but if it isn't fixed within the next two weeks, I'm getting a refund. My internet connection is perfectly fine, but I literally can't do anything, it seems the new live chess has made worse everything that it swore it would fix; problems I never even had in the old live chess. Its really really aggravating.

Again, no disrepect to anyone working on live chess, but I can't pretend like everything is working out fine. I also don't see the point in the massive rating increases and loses, I lost to a guy with a higher rating and it knocked my rating down 86 points, it really doesn't seem to serve any purpose to do that, the games are really much more stressing.

It was great, and now it's horrible.

When running a web site, remember your Hippocratic oath, guys: first, do no harm.

Back to Yahoo for a few days, sigh.
