Losing time for premoves

Why doesn’t chess.com fully compensate lag? Every time I move, my clock continues going down for at least a few seconds without getting compensated.

Even clear premoves take like 3 seconds.

My bullet rating has plummeted from 2000 down to the 1800s because of this.

If all lag was compensated, games could last a lot longer than expected. That's the staff statement I've seen posted in the past (or the essence anyway)

The main argument is a member also shouldn't be punished, from a waiting perspective, for their opponent's lag.

So it’s more fair for me to lose tons of time for no reason than for my opponents to think that I have an unfair advantage

#3 the server cannot know if you are moving that slowly or your internet is slow. It just takes more time to register your moves, and from that, the server can't guess if your internet or you are slow. I can see that you don't know anything about tech.

the server does actually know what ping you have

Since you play online, I think it's fair to get “punished” for bad internet. You shouldn't play if you know your internet can be bad. It's none of your opponents fault if you have bad internet. If I lose due to connection issues, even if it's annoying, I blame my connection, not the server or how lag is taken in account.

#7 no, only your device knows your ping.

But why should people be punished for having worse WiFi or living far away from the servers?

The site does know how long the move took. It's part of sending the move to the server.

The site has to make decisions on how to handle lag, that's as fair as possible to both players. The algorithm forgives an amount of lag , over a series of moves, to compensate for some of that.
