If you look at the games you'll likely find that in the vast majority you and your opponents are missing things.
low elo players punching way harder than they theoretically should

Unfortunately, online chess is littered with cheaters. Anyone who denies this is either uninformed or lying. Even chess.com acknowledges there are cheaters.
If you suspect your opponent is cheating, then report them and move on. Even though there are cheaters, you can still have fun and improve your game with practice. Don't let it get to you.

yes they should have to push it if they want to be better at the game if there is a way to make it easy or hard that should make it whatever they are feeling if they want to push harder then go hard if easyer then easy mode but this is my own brain in this note but it is up for chess.com to add this but if I work here then I want to have it for chess.com modes also for the new persons then they want to be easy on them this it my way over and out
I’m really fascinated by low players, like I would be by a marvel of nature, enigmatic psychological condition or the funny smell of Copium

I'm trying to enter the quad digits and it doesn't get better. I'll get an opponent who completely smokes me, and then I'll immediately get followed up by one who seems to be totally braindead. Part of it is because these people are better players than the ones I started with (obviously), but I sometimes feel as though I don't belong in this rating.

This is your last game:

Your opponent blundered a piece with his move 13 (Nxd5). All you needed to do is play exd5, but you played Qxd5 in 2 seconds (???) and now black is fine. Except he blundered the piece again and you took it. You were completely winning until the end of the game, when you blundered a rook and resigned.
So much about "extremely good".

Simple answer: More learning resources are available now. A 1000 rated player today might have the knowledge of a 1500 from years ago.
How many years are you talking about? 50?
Not to mention that 1000 rated players usually don't use almost any of the available resources.

That’s exactly why low rated players are punching harder than they theoretically should... many are picking up knowledge that wasn’t as easily accessible before.
Those people who use the free resources to get better don't stay below 1000.
There always were players who made an effort to study chess and got better at it. It was always a small minority. It still is.
The people that the OP are playing against (600 rated) are blundering pieces all over the place. But the OP doesn't notice it, so he thinks every opponent is a genius.

Hey, OP, I felt the same way for a long time, when I first joined chesscom, I was stuck right where you are. IDK about you, but my biggest problem was not using my time wisely. I'm now a 1200 and as soon as I have time to study chess more (gosh darn school) I bet I'll keep climbing. Don't get yourself down, find ways to drag yourself to the top.
I actually played a 2250 in real life recently at a chess club and had him in a time scramble. He of course won but at the end he shook my hand and asked what my rating was. When I told him it was like 650 he didn't even believe me
how is it when I play in real life I can hold my weight but as soon as I load up a rapid game against other 650's I'm steamrolled constantly? Can't help but be suspicious"
If you can do it to 2200s you can do it to 600s(or vice versa )
Tbh part of it is I think a lot of 2200s tend to play for a draw so it doesn't look like you get steamrolled plus when you get confused you will most likely play worse in guessing you don't know how to punish extremely bad openings or certain styles of play
People saying your opponents are missing things are missing the point.... you're not accusing them of cheating, just that they feel tougher to beat.
That happens because more learning resources are available now, some players are underrated, and sometimes they just play well.
It doesn’t mean they're flawless, just stronger than their rating suggests.
Refer back to my previous response for why that happens.
I'll be honest though, I do not believe your story about the 2250."
Id beleive it I lost to a 400 before us 2100s-2300s unfortunately aren't immune to tunnel vision play like 2700s and blunder like 600s 🤣

If you look at the games you'll likely find that in the vast majority you and your opponents are missing things.
This is the main argument against low elo cheating. "You suck therefore no cheating". Chess.com propaganda to minimize the obvious realization of mass cheating on this site.
