Fischer. He never misses mate since becoming a champion unlike Carlsen.
Magnus carlsen v bobby fischer who would win? Reason your answer
No offense but this is a dumb question. It is impossible to even guess the outcome. As many have stated they live(ed) in different times.
You are very intelligent!

You all realize.. the computers today are Making moves Bobby made way back... the computers today have ALL the games EVER.. including Fischer’s entire career.. Fisch from 1972 would WRECK today. And we would probably witness some Astounding ideas we never even considered.

Fischer vs Carlsen ... let's see what this real dream would look like...
In 1972 Carlsen was not born yet, so Fischer 1:0
In 2019 Fischer already deceased, so Carlsen 0:1
Result: 1:1
Then rapid and blitz boxing with chess960 and no gloves, because that's what Fischer & Carlsen negotiated in advance.

It's an interesting discussion. Unfortunately, one that can never be answered. On the face of it, if you had a time machine and plucked Fischer out of time at the height of his powers, and did so with Magnus as well, Magnus should easily trounce Fischer. However, Fischer was a madman(literally) and acted like it. Magnus wouldn't be the first GM to let that affect his game. What would truly be interesting is plucking Fischer out of time, putting him in a hotel room with a laptop the internet and Chessbase for a couple of years letting him catch up to the computer era. Then seeing who's better. That match would be one for the ages.

Let's say Carlsen was born in 1942 and a Fischer vs Carlsen match was played in 1972. Now I don't have enough chess knowledge to be able to give an informed opinion on whom may have been the stronger player in this hypothetical match but I do believe that Fischer would have a psychological advantage over Carlsen.

people compare Fischer playing Magnus in the present. What if Magnus was to play Fischer ln the past??

Well, I tend to assume that in a comparison like this, it is assumed that the grandmaster from the past, in this case Fischer, would have an interval in which to catch up on the latest openings - and so on. Of course, perhaps using a computer as an analysis partner is a skill all its own that takes years to master and involves some factors of ability and temperament.
I don't think Carlsen has fallen very far from his best, except that his flaws have perhaps become more apparent; he seems like the hare in Aesop's fable. So he would presumably lose to a truly worthy opponent, and Fischer at his best seems like just the man for the job.
But questions like this are unanswerable, fascinating though they may be.

It would not be fair on Fischer as Carlsen has most probably studied all Fischer’s games. If u gave Fischer a few years to study Carlsen games and study modern engine lines then I would say it would be a very close match. If it was classic time control of course there will be lots of drawn games but I would give Fischer a slight edge over Carlsen . In blitz rapid I would say Carlsen will have a slight advantage. Overall I reckon Carlsen would be very slightly stronger but it would be very tight.

when people make this comparison I think of the quote 'matter only gets energy from its environment' from this it makes me think yes give Fischer time to analyze Carlson's games and get to grips with a modern engine and we would have a war on our hands, but then I think if you flipped and put Carlson in Fischer's time period everyone would be like 'Magnus who'
Fischer would destroy Carlsen. Since becoming a US champion he never misses a mate , Carlsen did and he is already the world champion. 😆😆😆😆😆
