I think a lot of good players end up leaving the game later in life because of the lack of money to support a responsible life outside of chess. tournaments don't really pay enough, but I've been a full time chess player for the past 6 years making my income mainly online while focusing on becoming a stronger tournament player and finishing college. Here is a way you can make a part time income online that is working for me. Hope This Helps >>> visit <<<<

If you introduce gambling into chess, you run into the problem where some countries ban gambling on the internet and chess.com would be banned period.
Tournaments with cash prizes - where chess.com takes a cut of the entry fees - might be ok, though.
Some local chess clubs in my area used to run quads where each of the 4 players put in $5. The house kept $5 and the winner of the quad's round robin got $15. That kept the gambling to a minor level but allowed for some fun.
That also allowed those of us who occasionally won to claim we were professional chess players!
