massive glitch

I'm not worried about touch-move because there is no such thing in online chess. If there was, thats a different story, but right now thats irrelevant.

I'm not trying to take back the move, because I haven't made it yet. Have you ever clicked a pawn, paused, and then clicked on another piece and moved that one? Thats what I wanted to do, but can't because I couldn't get rid of the promotion screen.

A far better solution than calling for repair of a problem that doesn't exist would be for you to become more disciplined in your play.

If I understand the OP correctly, he's trying to get help with a legitimate glitch in live chess. This had nothing to do with touch move or asking for a takeback. He hadn't made the move.

yes he did, then why the 'promotion panal' pop up as he stated ?

pantheid

the debate here seems to be whether pushing the pawn to the eighth rank counts as a move or not before promotion occurs. I guess we leave it to the staff to decide.

Ubik42

I would like a clarification, since I have only played 3 live games.

If you click on a piece, do you have to move it?

So far in all my games this hasnt come up, because I just see the move I want and quickly drag the piece there. But I am curious now what happens if I just click on a piece, but dont actually move it anywhere yet. Is that a "touch", and do I now have to move the piece?

pantheid

No, touch move doesn't apply to online games.

Ubik42

Then I dont understand this thread at all. If you actually moved your pawn to the 8th instead of just clicking on it, then you must pick your promoted piece and end your turn. I don't see the glitch.

He has made the move and would like a takeback.

I was playing a game and I noticed that if you push your pawn toward the eighth rank and the promotion screen shows up, you cannot cancel that move and play another one.

kco

why still reading it ?

pantheid

This isn't a takeback, because the turn has not yet finished. But anyway, I just wanted to let the devs know what was going on. Whether or not it was intentional or worth changing is up to them. As a staff already saw it, you guys, especially jerks like Rosequeen, can stop commenting unless you have something more to add.

kco

guys listen, if you touch the pawn on the 7th rank nothing happen (no legal move yet ) , when move it to the 8th rank promotion panel popup legal move no cancel or takeback is possible, no glitch there period. (fyi, live chess only)

kco

also note ( I know you understand this pantheid that this is not a takeback) when you are trying to cancel the promotion panel this is just as the same as a takeback type of move in the promotion thing. (live chess only)

Yeah but OP said he didn't make the move.

No he didn't.  The OP specifically said he did move the pawn to the 8th rank, but he wants to take the position that he had not yet committed himself to the move even though he had already moved the piece.  That was in the very first sentence of the thread, and you have already been advised of this.

Premoves are an important part of bullet live games.

From the help page:

Frequently Asked Questions
What are premoves and how do they work?

Premoves are moves you can make before it's your turn - while your opponent is still thinking!

For example, let's say you would like to castle on the next move no matter what move is played by your opponent.  Then why wait?  You can make the castling move on your opponent's turn and it will be played instantly1 after any move2 your opponent plays.

Cystem_Phailure

I think she meant you can change your premove if your opponent hasn't moved yet . . . Cool

eddiewsox

In order for you to get the promotion screen in the first  place you must have moved the pawn to the eighth rank, did you release it?

Cystem_Phailure

I thought you just made a different move instead, and that replaced the previous pre-move?

Cystem_Phailure

Wait, that won't work, since you can enter multiple premoves.  But here's a forum where someone says just right-click and the entered premove is erased.
