Mens and Womens Chess

I'm new to Chess.com, and have really only played chess occasionally as a hobby.

 

I imagine this has been discussed before, but I was wondering why 2 brackets, one for men and one for women?  I was just checking out the U.S. Chess Championship site, and it made me wonder, since chess is obviously not a physical sport.

women's chess category is so sexist! Scrap it now!
