Two weeks?  Nope - lets do 162 games ... ok, maybe 1/2.. 81 games... until October (2009?) LMAO!

RedSoxpawn

I think maybe we could set up a tournament, then we could have fans of each team sign up in their team slot and match up a couple of games a week by the schedule. Then as we get into October fans can sign under the team they think will win, and have fans of the playing teams play games against eachother. If this isn't clear to understand, I wrote this at about 6 in the morning and I am still 3/4 asleep

Sounds like it might work, If I think I know what you meant....lol

Sorry man, I'm not sure I understand.

OSUBUCKEYE

"RedSoxpawn" I think you need to try it again, this time when your awake  lol

it might be possible to play the 162 games if we used "live chess". i know that won't suit all but i'm ready to fight like the Phils.

a problem--some of us like the same teams & some teams might not be represented!

punk64
I guess if the Phils are taken, I can play as their IronPigs minor club....

I say first come first serve whan and if this thing gets of the drawing boards. The live chess idea might work as well. We will need some oen to runthis whole thing or a few poeple to so it.

I am saying that we could make up teams that would be modeled after the real teams. Fans would sign up under the team that they are pulling for, Mr. BaseballFan could be Commissioner if he wants. Then we could set up two games a week against the team that your team is playing. Home team would be black, and visitor would be white for obvious reasons. Then when October arrives we have the teams that advanced play against eachother, and the teams that didn't advance could vote for who they think will win. Is this a better explanation, I hope it is because I have never been able to explain anything very wellLaughing
OSUBUCKEYE

I got it now, sounds great to me!

Mr. Basefan can have the Commissioner if he wants it.

Lets' do it.

RedSoxpawn

I knew somebody would get it

im down for any combination of baseball and chess. at first i thought that the system described here would work better for football than baseball because of the smaller amount of games, then realized that the parity in the MLB means it would probbaly work better. a good chess player could conceivably win if their chosen team was say, the pittsburgh pirates. but if your team was the miami dolphins this past season, youd be totally screwed.

What ever we planning for our tournament we need to get it started be the 25th, unless we aren't doing opening day?Undecided
OSUBUCKEYE
I agree so our commiss needs to get things going  Smile, Put me down for the Reds
RedSoxpawn
did he agree to commiss

I can figure out something re: keeping track, but I don't think I want to commit to playing. I typically prefer to play slow games. My one question would be, what to do if the team you pick (ie the Reds) isn't playing another team that someone has picked? We don't know how many people will be playing, the number of teams we have might be pretty sparse. On suggestion might be, that as long as we have fewer than 15 players (which is likely), then each player pick one team from the NL, and one from the AL. This way, we have two options for matching them up v. another player. If this happens, then each player will have a 1st pick, then a second pick. And I would decide which team you played with each week. I'm not pushing rules, this is just a thought, let me know what you think.
OSUBUCKEYE
sounds good to me "Baseballfan" what do we do now?
Baseballfan
Well, probably the best thing to do is to go ahead and e-mail me or PM me that you want to play, so that it doesnt get lost in this long thread. My addy is joshk at chess DOT com. And we will see if we have enough real interest to go forward.

Well I guess the subject of a league has died.

Lets see some picks, for me I have to stay with my Reds to maybe make the wide card this year, I see no one that can match up to the Red Soxs this year, I also see a new manager in New York by the All-Star break maybe even two. The Indains have the picthing and the Cubs have to find a heart to win this year even with Lou as the manager

I know I have some bias, but what about Detroit? They may not be quite up to Cleveland's standards in pitching, but with that rotation, they aren't far off, and they have a MUCH better offense. I can even see them competeing with Boston. Let's not forget, Beckett, as good as he is, tends to be injury prone, it's not likely that he'll be around all year. As for new managers, I expect a new one in Chicago's south side before New York. I figure that Ozzie has till about May; June if he's lucky.
