My blitz & rapid ELO lag behind my bullet ELO

Is this common? I’ve always improved in bullet faster than in blitz and rapid

One of my issues in rapid is that, after playing 8000 games of 3-5 minute and several thousand of 1 minute, I move too fast, whereas my opponent will sometimes take up to a minute and do much more thorough calculations than I do.

To add to this, I find 1 minute much more exciting and infuriating, I feel that 3 minute is the best balance of fun and thinking, and worry that 10 minute allows use of engines.

Having fast move reflexes bleed over into slower time controls is one reason I try to severely limit how much blitz I do.

I don’t worry about opponents using engines at all. If they are using engines their rating will artificially inflate them past my rating range so I only play them once, then they get to go play Nakamura.

It's fairly common, bullet uses up less time and usually (but not always) is the easiest time control to rise in. I used to have a far higher gap between my bullet and blitz ratings (at least 150 elo) but now I've mostly switched over to blitz.

The least trolly post you've made today.

The degree to which I make trolly posts is in proportion to how trolly the topic is!

Bullet is a totally different skill set than blitz or rapid. Unless you are really strong player in all time controls, I wouldn't expect there to be very much correlation between the game types.
