Most of my friends play chess as well. If any of them ask me to play online games, I just multitask. 3 minute blitz + war thunder + music + depression = success
😭 My Friends Think I'm Weird for Playing Chess.com... But Who's Laughing Now? 😎♟️

For fun? I took one look at it and went yeah nah

Anything from 14th century philosophy (Machiavelli locks in) to Stephen king (the stand is a good book but a thousand pages is a bit long, innit?). I do prefer sci fi, Phillip K D*ck locks in (I have to censor that even tho it’s just his name cuz chess.com won’t allow it)

Just tell them, "So I like chess. Get over it."
We all have different hobbies and you've found one of yours. Don't let your friends bully you for liking what you like - otherwise, they're not really your friends at all.

Most of my friends play Minecraft and Roblox they always make fun of me for playing chess.com. So one day in class we got free time one of my friends played Minecraft the other was playing Geometry Dash, while I was playing chess.com. One of my friends said: "Why are you playing Chess.com when you could be playing a FUN video game. After a while of harassing me one of my other friends said he could beat me in chess EASILY so I faced him and his first move was the F pawn! (Need I say more?)
I used to have a pretty chill life. I’d go out with friends, play video games, maybe grab a coffee, all that normal stuff. Then came 2023, and out of nowhere, CHESS became a trend. No, not just any chess—CHESS.COM. I’m talking late-night tactics, watching GothamChess videos, and doing those “blunder check” posts like I’m some kind of chess wizard.
Now, here’s where the story gets juicy: My friends? Oh, they’ve been loving this. Well, not exactly. They've been roasting me nonstop ever since I got into this “chess thing.”
Friend 1: “Wait, you’re spending hours on a website where the goal is to... put a king in checkmate? Just play Fortnite, bro.”
Friend 2: “You know chess is like super old, right? What’s next? You gonna start reading War and Peace for fun too?”
Friend 3: “You’re seriously using Chess.com? I thought we were playing multiplayer games together, but now you’re out here talking about ‘opening theory.’ Sorry, I don’t speak grandmaster.”
They think I’m in some sort of chess cult. 🙄
But here’s the twist: I’m now 2000 elo. Yep, you read that right. 2000. And you know what? I’m out here winning games and playing like I’ve been training for this moment my whole life.
So here’s the breakdown of what’s happened:
Friend 1: “You’re good, but I could totally crush you.” Me: "Yeah, if you’re a knight stuck in the corner for the first 15 moves, sure."
Friend 2: “Chess is just a phase, bro. It's like a TikTok challenge for nerds.” Me: “Okay, whatever you say, but I’ve been studying openings while you’re out here playing Candy Crush.”
Friend 3: “You’re not gonna be able to keep this up. You’re just riding the chess hype.” Me: “Says the guy whose best opening is ‘move pawns forward randomly.’”
Now, I’m out here, 2000 elo, and I’m starting to feel like a chess machine. I can spot tactics that would leave my friends baffled, and I’m throwing around terms like “e4, d5, and f3” like they’re my social security number.
I get a cheeky “I’ll take that pawn” vibe every time I make a move.
My King’s Indian Defense is next level, and my opponents are literally out here trying to figure out what just hit them.
Oh, and I’m not just winning: I’m bullying noobs in bullet chess. No mercy. 3-minute timer? Easy. I’m a bullet god now.
But the real flex? When I win a game and my friends send me a text, “You’re so weird for playing chess.” I just reply with, “Yeah, but guess what? I just hit 2000 elo on Chess.com, and you’ll be lucky to even reach 1200. 🤷♂️”
SO NOW I NEED YOUR HELP:
Anyone else get roasted by friends for playing Chess.com? It’s like they think I’m in some kind of “weird nerd phase,” but honestly, I’m just out here becoming the next Magnus Carlsen, one blunder-free move at a time.
What’s the best “I’m 2000 elo, what’s your excuse?” comeback? Asking for a friend. 😂
Should I keep flexing or should I start a chess-streaming career and blow their minds? I’ve got the content, the moves, and the madness.
TL;DR: My friends think I'm weird for playing Chess.com, but now I’m 2000 elo and flexing on them like a true chess master. So, I guess the real question is... Who’s the weird one now? 💁♂️
