The median age on the internet.... blah blah

I was told there would be pudding and pie.

If I make it to 2300 FIDE, I expect Goichberg to put the FM in front of my name, even if I don't pay 70 euros.

I know someone who had a peak FIDE rating over 2400, didn't realize this qualified him for the FM title and never paid the money. Years later, it's too late and he's always referred to as NM. C'est la vie, I don't think it bothers him too much.

The permanance of titles is very encouraging to hear.  That means that if I do ever get above 2200, I needn't fear one of my slumps.  Wink

Being ~1050 internally right now, it'll take a lot of games and a lot of practice, but I'll try for it!

I read the rules on FIDE, and it says any published rating, so is he really sure it's too late?

Its not too late, he can still claim the title, pay the fee, and get it. This is true even if his rating may now be below 2300 fide.

Yes, that is also how I read it.

So are you saying that I would have to pay a fee to get Goichberg to put up the shiny FM?

Do I have to pay a fee for Erik to do it too?

What the hell is your problem man?

Actually, forget it. I'm not going to waste my time having to somehow defend myself just because I pointed out many TDs weren't aware of the current implementation of the NM title.

Don't send me any more messages please. Thanks.

WOW !  I get this kind of reaction for trying to clarify things on the NM title and then he blocks me so I cannot respond !?  Whats wrong with people these days ?! It seems some people just cannot handle being wrong.

Most men, even in this comparatively free country, through mere ignorance and mistake, are so occupied with the factitious cares and superfluously coarse labors of life that its finer fruits cannot be plucked by them.

I am not sure of the exact amount that fide requires be paid for the FM title but I think its usually paid by the players' federation. I guess if your federation wont pay it the individual is allowed to pay it themselves. I still play under the US flag but dont know if the US federation would pay for me or not. I have been assured by people in the Portuguese federation that they would gladly pay it if the US federation won't. Now....... all I have to do is make 2300.......
