Nepo - it's just embarrassing for the game now.

I think that Nepo is just overwhelmed by the whole thing especially coming off that 8hr loss.

Most regular normal people work 8 hours every day for 5 days a week. People can have "bad" days at their job but then have to go back the next day and have to put on a smile and pretend like nothing happened.

Nothing remotely comparable.  For starters, your bad day at the office wasn't watched live by millions around the world.  Secondly, if your bad day at the office was so bad that you end up getting fired, you could probably find another job.  OTOH, we can assume Nepo's lifelong dream was to play for a WC, and he surely knows that this might be the only chance he'll ever get in his life.

Look to other sports: in baseball, most of the time the best relief pitchers get over a blown game, but not always.  Losing confidence in yourself, plus being drained from an exhausting (and unfair) schedule (designed for more viewership), is hard to overcome, especially when playing a guy named Magnus Carlson.

Even look to chess.  Many people thought that Ivanchuk had the talent to be World Champion, but most also thought that he would not be able to overcome his psychological makeup to do so.  Nerves, etc.

Actually Nepos pay will be about 950,000 usd. The 2 million total is in Euros or pounds. But he's gonna have taxes, team expense, whatever other costs out of it. He might keep half a million. He can buy him a few rental houses as investments over in Russia for his retirement. Very good, so he's gonna be fine.

This match is just about over.

Anyone who says that "even 1400s" wouldn't make a blunder like that have clearly NEVER played in a tournament. I've seen far better players play far worse moves.

That seems to be the overwhelming consensus here. At a world class level, there seems to have been mistakes made during this tournament. But I completely agree, far worse mistakes have been made in many other equally world class events.

Nobody rips Lasker for essentially quitting against Capablanca.  But if the internet existed back then the "online GM's" would be up in arms over it.

Magnus should offer Nepo a draw, just to force him to return tomorrow. "Where do ya think you're going?"

Most GM's would....not Magnus.  That guys will to win is off the proverbial charts.

Heroic last stand from Nepo, putting Carlsen under huge pressure. But Carlsen wins.

And its over...finally.

RIP Nepo.

Warbler

Well, it is over. Nepo just resigned and Carlsen has won the match.

It was another blunder game by the worst challenger in decades. So glad it’s over. Embarrassing match.

What about Nigel Short?

themaskedbishop
Short didn’t blunder. He was just way over matched in a PGA match.

Tell us, masked bishop, do you consider Nepo's play embarrassing for the game?

Hasn't become clear to me during the last days.

What's Carlsen's rating going to be after this match?

Hes the best player on the planet.  His rating is irrelevant.

The OP and a few others think this trolling is in some way funny or amusing. It is childish. Understandable that a few misfits will always be around. Always the case. Human nature.

However- it needs saying. The behavior is disrespectful and distasteful. It is contrary to the spirit of chess. The majority of posts have expressed contrary opinions to the low level trolling. Such negative individuals will always remain. Adults that have never grown up or kids that don’t know any better. Chess teaches us to respect our opponents. A simple lesson - unfortunately too hard for a few to understand.

So nepo lost the last game and the championship.

Still i don't really think the uncharacteristic blunders from nepo should be criticised all that hard. the almost 8 hour game 6 loss is what turned the tables, Magnus had momentum, probably the upperhand in mental and physical stamina, where as nepo was left frustrated and desperate after game 6.

Stuff like this happens in championships all the time, in any sport. When the top are fighting, one outcome can turn the tables, and the person with the advantage isn't stopped easily because they're a top player, especially someone of Magnus' calibre.

I honestly never expected Nepo to win, I was always a Magnus fan and knew he could beat Nepo. However, even though Nepo lost and blundered, I became a bigger fan of him because he maintained a good attitude, never blaming anyone, and showed great humbleness. That game 6 will go down in history and people will be talking about it for decades to come.

My last post from the previous page. The last comment that needs stating for myself. We can all take something from the WC match. Hopefully something that contributes to a positive spirit towards our great hobby.
