New accounts signing up just to win tournaments

why is this allowed, they get paired mostly with beginners, the clean up, then win the tournament, what's the point?

I feel like this has happened to me a couple of times in the past year.   I didn't think it was allowed if the moderators can figure it out.

Report people if they are sandbagging etc

Thanks

UnderTactics

This happened to me in the first and only daily tournament I was a part of on chess.com. It was an under 1200 tournament and there was this one guy who was a 1600+ player, respectkalina I think was his username. plus a few other players that had gone from 1000- to 1500+ in a matter of months. Imo each tournament should be vetted

If you're talking about Daily tournaments, look for ones that require a minimum number of games.

Chess.com doesn't ban for stuff like that. Mostly they send 1000x warnings.

And in any case it's useless advice because you can only notice it after the fact i.e. after the new account has won the tournament. What use is it to ban them then? They'll have moved on to their next new account.

Out of the 11 untitled players in the Rapid top 100, I reported 6 of them 5 days ago.

3 of the ones I reported were for rating manipulation.

I suspect that zero of the 6 will be banned.

Chess.com may not have any easy options. If they ban the "obvious" cheaters, it's a bad policy decision when the standards aren't high enough to go to court over.

If they don't ban them while admitting it is an issue, then it's extremely bad PR.

So the best option is to pretend they don't exist. People like [edit moderator SB] who have won something like 395 of their last 400 rapid games. Many of the games in under 5 moves.

Watch, a mod will delete that name and tell me to report or some dumb response like that. He was reported months ago. The account is still open.

So like I said, their policy is to pretend it's not a problem.

@llama51, as you said, if it's unpolicable what do you do? It's like how they have opening explorer icon just sitting there during daily games. It's illegal to ask Bob at the pub what move to play, but you can ask Hikaru via a database... Huh?!? So I guess the response is to even that resource up, if you're a paid up member. Makes it seem meaningless to me, but anyway...

Tacomeats

I've reported that [removed by moderator: Justin] for weeks and chess. Com just doesn't care he's cheating

JustinTime132

No cheating accusations on the forums please, just report and move on.

If it were cheating to manipulate your rating the way that user did, then they would have been banned. @tacomeats and I aren't the one people who have reported him.

It is in fact NOT cheating, so it is NOT a cheating accusation. It's annoyance at chess.com's rules.

But of course mods aren't paid to think. In fact they aren't paid at all (I guess chess.com is getting their money's worth).
