Hello,

I am new to chess.com, I just joined today. I am here because I want to get better at chess, and the only way for me to get better is to play against people who are better than me.

I look forward to meeting people here, and improving my chess skills.

Hello,

Thanks for the link! I appreciate it! I will look at the link in a little bit. Thanks for the welcome also!

I have a question now, is it possible to play somebody here and see what areas I need to improve on in my chess playing?

you're welcome, and yes you could use the computer analysis tool to anylize your games or you could post your game under the game anylisis tag for other users to anylize, if you would like to improve it's recomended that you post a game that you lost.

Hello,

Ill try it. So far I can beat level 1 and 2 easy. level 3 and 4 takes a lot of effort. Level 5 I havent beaten yet.

One thing you need to know is I suffer from ADD. It is hard to focus and sometimes hard to see things coming, especially in chess. Its something I am working on. I think practicing controlling it on something small, like chess, will help me, actually.

Ill do a game now, and try to put it under the game analysis tag you mentioned.

Welcome!  And here is your introductory free gift:

Opening Principles:

  1. Control the center squares – d4-e4-d5-e5
  2. Develop your minor pieces toward the center – piece activity is the key
  3. Castle
  4. Connect your rooks

Tactics...tactics...tactics...

The objective of development is about improving the value of your pieces by increasing the importance of their roles. Well-developed pieces have more fire-power than undeveloped pieces and they do more in helping you gain control.

Now we will look at 5 practical things you can do to help you achieve your development objective.

They are:

  1. Give priority to your least active pieces.
  • Which piece needs to be developed (which piece is the least active)
  • Where should it go (where can its role be maximized)
  1. Exchange your least active pieces for your opponent’s active pieces.
  2. Restrict the development of your opponent’s pieces.
  3. Neutralize your opponent’s best piece.
  4. Secure strong squares for your pieces.

Don’t help your opponent develop.

There are 2 common mistakes whereby you will simply be helping your opponent to develop:

  1. Making a weak threat that can easily be blocked
  2. Making an exchange that helps your opponent to develop a piece

Pre Move Checklist:

  1. Make sure all your pieces are safe.
  2. Look for forcing moves: Checks, captures, threats. You want to look at ALL forcing moves (even the bad ones) as this will force you look at, and see the entire board.
  3. If there are no forcing moves, you then want to remove any of your opponent’s pieces from your side of the board.
  4. If your opponent doesn’t have any of his pieces on your side of the board, then you want to improve the position of your least active piece.
  5. After each move by your opponent, ask yourself: "What is my opponent trying to do?"

Hello,

Finished the game. Went against a level 5 computer and lost. How do I post the game on the Analysis section you mentioned?

make sure that you haven't exited the game yet, if you have you'll have to start a new one

go to chess forums start a new topic and change the tag from general disscusion to game analysis in the post click on the small chessboard in the left corner and then click on load pgn, then copy the moves from the right hand of the screen and paste to the moves to the pgn, hopefully this works
