Nigel Short: Women's brains not chess brains

And why should anyone care if threads are resurrected? Don't like it, don't read/follow it.

And as to we should keep it about "individual chess skills, Nigel, good old chap, was the one who started talking not about individual chess skills but about classes of people (men vs. women). So really, Nigel should be a FOR affirmative action then since he likes to talk about large classes of folks instead of individuals. :)

Ok Let's clear this freedom of speech issue. At least in the US freedom of speech means you cannot be locked up for speaking in the public square. It does not mean that if others don't like your speech they can't boycott, ridicule, out shout unsponsored you or whatever else. We are all free to retaliate in non violent ways to speech we don't like. Now, government regulation or penalty, I get that, but not other people shouting back or pulling money from your cause, etc.

I'm not quite sure about what you mean but freedom of speech include the rifgt to answer posts.

Bonny-Rotten

that's right, people have the right to tell you to shut up.

No problem with answering posts. That was not my point.

Yes we can tell each other to shut up and also as long as we are not breaking decency rules to tell people to go.to hades or stick it or get one's head out of one's bottom or whatever.

Bonny-Rotten

yes, you see it would be too difficult to confine people's right to intelligent speech. that unfortunately would be a moving target.

Raspberry_Yoghurt

Websites arent public squares, they are private spaces like shops and malls.

It's weird people always complain about not being allowed to post this or that on Twitter or Facebook or whatever.

Elubas

You can tell a person to shut up, but it goes both ways -- that person can still think it's bad judgment on your part to tell them to shut up.

Anyway, there are probably more so called "exceptions" to free speech than cases in which free speech is allowed. Kinda sad but whatever.

No, it's valid to complain about it. Complaining doesn't exert authority.

Bonny-Rotten

yah it's like freedom of speech man! you can say what you want with the freedom to suffer the consequences.

We could have a more peaceful world if we focus on controlling Putin and his quest to expand Russia into neighbouring countries.

Bonny-Rotten

It's a job for James Bond and MI6.

P2P. The problem with budo is that it can be twisted and corrupted like anything else. For example the Japanese Imperial army used the Hagakure as indoctrination to get folks to become Kamikazes and jump off cliffs instead of surrender and so forth. I am not so sure that would be a good idea.

lebid

Putin is a war monger and needs to be controlled in order to protect the numerous, small and peaceful nations in the area.

Hey, cool it with the politics. We don't want this thread to be closed, now do we?

Colin20G

Apart from some obvious trolling attempts the whole thing has become quite repetitive to be honest.

.  back to the present forum. because there is already a 'budo for peace' movement,  i asked lately,  is a 'chess for peace' movement possible?

i personnaly think martial arts and chess are good things because they can help people grow and become better people. its the first time i see a book like the one below. i'm sure for  some people a 'chess for peace' movement would also appears to present some dangers. i guess nothing is simple :)

Because you don't understand the context behind Yoga.  Some martial arts like Krav Maga are good, but yoga was invented by Hindus for Hindu purposes.  Can you please tell me the first commandment?  Now, wouldn't you say Yoga violates it?  According to Torah God is one, not three, not a village of gods, but one.
