Not cheating but...

Well, I see no problem with this site's TOS and your behaviour. I commend your level of self-control.
However, I do suspect your wife would disagree with your interpretation of 'cheating' not applying to such activities. If she sees no problem, does she have a sister?

Is that cheating? If computer only showed its evaluation of the possition, represented as a number, and never showed the moves it took into consideration, then I wouldn't say it was cheating. Online games, where you have several days per move are by its nature closer to corresponedce chess than to OTB. It is, in fact, corrspondence game, only with the use of email instead of snailmail and with some fancy program that showes the position on the board instead of just the last move. In correspondece chess use of opening books and books of endings is /or was, since I haven't played correspondence chess in a while/ ALLOWED.

Yes, that is cheating.
During a game, it is an invaluable aid (& and unfair advantage over your opponent) to know if your position is:
better than, the same, or worse than your opponent, as knowing that can greatly influence your play, tactics and how you study the position.

It's cheating. Computer evaluations are not allowed. It is like someone walking around looking at both yours, and your opponent's cards in a game of poker. And you keep asking this person if you should bet some more, based on his knowledge of both player's cards.

Is it cheating to have a physical board set up mirroring the timed game so you can analyse your game yourself? I've thought of doing that, but wanted to make sure about it.

No, it's not cheating in turn-based chess.

Define "analyse".
If you mean, you're not just looking but are actually moving the pieces to try out and see the consequences of various possible moves, I believe that's cheating (but, only a little bit and mostly I think you're cheating yourself out of becoming trained to be able to work that out in your mind).

I'd agree with that. Working it out in your mind is crucial to improving memory, mastering lines of play, etc... I fully believe that.

No that's not cheating in turn-based.

"Hi, I am here under a new name. I closed out my old account because I didn't really think it reflected my true chess playing strength. I wasn't cheating, but I feared that staff will close it for cheating anyway. I was relying too much on computer analysis and books on the openings to supplement my game. I did not allow it to make any moves for me, but after I had made my moves I did use it to analize the position & whether or not I was ahead in the game. The computer could also show what are the possible replies of my opponent and how to respond to them. I wasn't cheating, I swear I am honest."
Again read my post & stop misquoting me. I never looked ahead to possible moves or play out possible lines.

You cheated. Face it.

You do not need to do all that you could do or could have done, to qualify as having cheated.
There is no need for anyone to misquote you. You have stated what you have done very clearly.

not to nitpick but it is also against the rules to create a new account.

I suspect any multiple accounts we see are 'grandfathered' in, before the site rules were toughened up to:
"Only One Account
Members may only have ONE Chess.com account. Members who create more than one account may have all accounts closed."
(from http://www.chess.com/legal.html)

ps. On the other hand, the site is saying "may have all accounts closed", which suggests to me, that multiple accounts might be allowed with prior written permission from the site.

I did not allow it to make any moves for me, but after I had made my moves I did use it to analize the position & whether or not I was ahead in the game. If I was behind I actually studied the position harder. I started this new account to play all my games from now on without any computer analysis during the game, only after the game is over to see where I made mistakes or if I missed anything. I am also not using any opening books or the Game Explorer once the game starts to make any of my opening moves. I am playing the games from now on as if I were sitting in front of the board playing without any help whatsoever. I figure this way is the only way to get a true assessment of my playing strength. Plus win or lose, I am playing the game, not some book, or computer.
What was your previous name and what was the highest rating you reached?

Now I am playing one corresponce game. I have the game set up on my little chess board. When my opponent moves (about once per week, but he has taken up to 13 days to move) I analyze it on my chess board for about 10 min. I make my moves soon after her moves. I don't have any software that works on my old Dell computers so its just me and my chess board. Is that cool?
Here on chess.com I only play 10 min games and don't use any type of help.
"Hi. I'm married and my wife and I vowed to never cheat on each other. But, I go to meet other women, have dinner, a few drinks, get a room, and then we take our clothes off and get in bed. We DON'T make love! That would be cheating! I just ask her if she likes me, then I leave."
