Opening Theory and Vegetarianism are both OVERRATED.

Sure, just be careful you don't go around anthropomorphising everything.

Seriously though, there's a talking dog in this thread.

waffllemaster

That's different.  Goldendog is part of the family.

Some people talk to their plants.  Others talk to their pets.  As long as you don't talk to yourself (or argue with yourself) there's still hope.

Instead, we argue about "chess openings," online.  All with such verve!  Smile

Seems it's a similar set of rules to those that prohibit cannibalism.

Cats are going for world domination.

Ms. Soda, that first tree kind of frightens me.  Do you eat meat?  I wonder if IM Pfren eats horse?  And when is his and Zborg's judo match gonna happen?  The public is CLAMOURING for it!

The main reason for not studying the openings as an under 2000 player is that getting better at CHESS is NOT about simply memorizing moves, per se.  Its more about fundamentals of the game, ie middle and endgames.  I agree with the ZborgMaster.  Then, when we become 2400 later this year, we can once again, memorize moves.

Bobby Fischer ABHORRED the idea of top players memorizing moves.  His last words were ".... today's chess is just roped in MEMORIZATION and PRE ARRANGEMENT".  And then he died.  I don't think he died because they were memorizing moves, though.

It is true, about his last words. But he died while 64, because there is no square 65 available in this world. And he only drank orange juice.. but the noise of the oranges being pressed to death contributed a lot to his pain and misery in later life Surprised

Well, brother, have no fear, you can enjoy your daily plate of rock, pebbles and other minerals, although these are made of exactly the same stardust as the rest of life...but I would stick to fish, meat, vegetables and fruit, knowing that we are all following our destiny...Cool... and vegetarianism is overrated...

It always affects someone no matter how hard you try, I think. If you eat a cow, I think at least you should know a living creature suffered for it. But that is my opinion. And my heart is way too big for this world, that is possibly true.

So very true. It always affects someone, because we are all just one. And it is that, that you feel in your heart if you follow it, that is...but vegetarianism is overrated Laughing

ozzie_c_cobblepot

Fischer should have known that there are exactly 204 squares on a chessboard, and 1296 rectangles.

LOL Ozzie Laughing He should have had a friend like you, but he did not trust friends !

Hey, this is a serious thread, on a topic I seemed to have misplaced.

How did bong hits and Buffy find their way into our scintillating conversation?  Like the conspiracy by Goggle, mentioned above -- Sirs, have you no shame?

Watch out, or we might beat you silly with raw organic asparagus spears.

Another Disclaimer: My mother forced me to eat veggies as a kid.  Only many years later did I finally develop an interest in GREEN vegetables.

@TheTubester had similar problems in his childhood, I conjecture.  And it shows.

Based on the discussion above, it sounds like Bobby Fischer was under attack from every plant in the vegetable garden.  Laughing

It amuses me that humans think they've got the market cornered on emotions.

Yes indeed, we are all made of "star shite."  Here's a great (short) introduction to that topic by two British physicists, who write in English (not Mathematics).  Delightful book.

I just made butternut squash soup for dinner last night.
