Opinion: Chess.com should rename "Resign" button to "Quit Game". This would severely reduce the number of people that do not resign.

How will that work?

Same result, different label. If I choose to take the loss, I'm going to take the loss regardless of what you call my action.

I disagree. I would not want to press a "quit game" button. I do not like to quit. However, I use the resign button when I realize that my opponent has outplayed me and that they deserve the win.

I would rename it to Rage Quit lol

No I'm just kidding

How, exactly, will this pan out?

Nobody wants to QUIT a game, but they probably will resign sometime.

The label on the button makes no difference to me.

That'll lead to a barrage of complaints that the quitter didn't know he would be resigning and lose rating.

Resign means they actually surrender because they know they can’t win, but quit is all purpose

Quitting means taking your chess set and going home. Resigning only applies to one game.

yes but "quit seems more severe than "resign", so when someone wanted to let go of the game, they might be a little bit more disappointed in them selves frustrated.png

Good. They need to feel mad so next game they can play with feeling, vengeance even.

I disagree because saying ‘I resign’ isn’t just a chess.com phrase, it’s a common chess phrase used everywhere, OTB and online.

Yeah it would feel better to lose

Avatar of congrandolor

They should remove the resign button altogether. Only checkmate counts.

Nah then people would be bored when people want to get a losing game over with

A loss is a loss regardless of whether the opponent resigns, quits, sits there, disconnects, turns the power off, dies, holds their breath, walks away, eats, etc.

Nope. Resigning is the traditional term for giving up and has been for a long time
