Opponent requests chat immediately after a decisive move is made against them - why?

I've been playing for a month or so.  Two trends I noticed that seem to happen very often is:

1) A player will "disconnect" instead of resigning often when the game is not in their favor.  I'm glad to hear they do lose their points though.

2) Immediately after I make a decisive move in my favor (for example a forced back rank mate or a threat that would result in significant loss of material) I get a request to chat.  Why?  I can't imagine it's anything positive so I always ignore it.  And I also don't want to be distracted in any way.  This happen so much surely others have experienced it as well.

Yes. People usually just want to say good game.

Really?  I guess I'm just a cynical person if that's the case lol.

I mean if they were good sports I figured they'd just resign at that point, but they always play on.  When I know I'm beaten I resign.

Ummm... I'm not so sure. That's pretty wholesome if true but...

I’ve been in that situation myself. I genuinely wanted to tell them good game. What is weird about appreciating skill?

Really? All I have seen is some curse words in their native language. I had to search its meaning in Google translate to understand what he just told me. I don't think 95% of the people will say GG to their opponents on losing. People have to be very humble to say GG while having that burning sensation in the stomach . But, its okay even if we don't say anything, but abusing your opponent is not at all acceptable (which seems to be major issue)

My last handful of chats were because they wanted to express sportsmanship before resigning.

The latest chat I had was along the line of being in awe how complex the game was for him.

Another time, my opponent complimented me on my active play. I told him I would do a rematch. We actually played 3 games and he won back to back lol.

i usually accept the chat request as it is always a gem, either i get a GG and it makes me happy to see a good sport. or i see a salty loser and i get to laugh at them.

Glad to hear that. I wish I too get that in the future. What I explained was based on my own personal experience after playing nearly 500 games in just 9 days. You may think that's too early to tell that, but it's what it is!

But, I have to mention this. Just on 2nd of my joining, I got a PM from an unknown person who was so kind and friendly. He was curious to know what's the meaning of the quotes written in my profile. We exchanged few kind words and that's how friendship starts . I was really surprised by his gesture. But, during games people get frustrated naturally and they might abuse opponets. Initially, I had disabled the chat to avoid this, but I thought such words will never affect me in any way. Then, I turned on my chat for everyone and am happy about it. I am here to connect with people and why to bother about negatives!

I’ve had negative experiences as well but it doesn’t bother me.

My last opponent who was rated 2300 in a tournament game accused me of sand bagging (I was 1400) because he had a hard time with my Sicilian game. I took it as a compliment.
