OTB is a nice experience, so for longer games definitely OTB. I like playing bullet online though

The problem with OTB is that it’s hard to find people who hit that sweet spot of rating difference. So often they are a lot better or a lot worse than you, and even if you are at a club, there are usually only a couple of people who are more or less at the same rating, and playing them repeatedly gets stale.
But OTB is definitely better for the social interaction. My sister and I play once a week as a planned thing, but really the chess is only an excuse to get together and talk about what’s going on in our lives. I can neither confirm nor deny if alcohol is involved.

But that’s one of the benefits of OTB. You can’t really share some wine over an online game.
