People and their fascination with Fischer’s craziness

I see so many people on here trying to be edgy and cynical like their idol Bad Boi Bobby Fischer. Why? Don’t you realize he was insane?

I’m tired of seeing comments and threads like “chess is a waste of time” or “why would anybody want to become good at chess?” and most of the times their pfp is the man himself, Bobby Fischer.

I get it, you just watched Pawn’s Sacrifice and think it’s cool to mimick Toby Maguire’s portrayal of Fischer.

1.) There’s much debate as to whether or not Fischer was actually as crazy as they make him out to be in the movie
2.) Why would Fischer hate chess but keep playing it throughout his life even up until his death?
3.) You’re not Bobby Fischer, please stop acting like him... or acting like the movie character

If you don’t like chess or are bored of the game, that’s fine. But nobody finds it “edgy” or “cool” to rant about the meaninglessness of chess and how the game is pointless. So? So is literally everything else in the entire world besides eating food and drinking water. So if that’s all you want to do be my guest, but for the love of God stop the Bobby Fischer act.

People love labels.  Its a need to belong to something.  Its the same reason you have people that barely know how the pieces move, and yet they play the Sicilian because its "tactical" and "aggressive".

Its like the time everyone quoted Tupac, and everyone under the age of 30 "pontificated".
