This type of thing has happened to me in a few games. I am white and in very good position. We are in a deadlock as black continues to check while I move from one square to another. In this example, I can allow the queen to take my rook, but have had games where I can only move from check to check without any options.Am I required to give up my rook? Is this game a draw?
You may do whichever you prefer... repeat the position or give up your rook. If you repeat the position three times your opponent can demand a draw.
Since you've repeated the same position 3 times your opponent can claim a draw if he chooses to.
Before that happened you had the choice either to let him force a draw through repetition or accept that he'd won the rook. Either option is fine and within the rules.
Annoying when this happens eventhough you may have more pieces on the board.
