does anyone know where I could download pgn files for the following openings? they don't have to be from the same site. I want the main line and then variations.

Alekine's defense

King's indian defense

that only has the main lines. :( I could make my own files if you could suggest a website that just lists the main lines and variations. I could enter it in manually.

I don't understand?

Thare are thousands of games in each of those openings. You can build a huge tree with more variations than you can learn in a lifetime?

Maybe jjt96 just wants just the openings, like one would find in MCO.

thanks. I think I know where to look now. How would you decide which variations are worth learning? Definatley the main line, but what else?

Whatever entertains you is a fair place to start.

maybe the top couple most played lines plus the top 1 or 2 theorietically best lines, maybe? And the Main line, of course. Then I could always expand if my opponents play something a lot that isn't in my repitoire.

You might want to take a look at a book that explains the ideas behind various openings, such as Van der Sterren's Fundamental Chess Openings, or John Watson's Mastering the Chess Openings series.  It will all make more sense if you find out why some moves are considered better than others.

I went to PGNmentor.com the other day and downloaded every file from every opening classificiation they had there. One of the best things I've downloaded chess-wise in ages.
