I've been playing against computers for many years and I believe it helped me greatly. I quickly learned to be wary of possible tactics against me at every move, I learned what tactically winning moves look like (bizarre!), how to spot weaknesses, the importance of openings, a feel for initiative during gambits, etc. Most chessplayers make more mistakes than computers, so if you can beat a computer, you should be able to beat most humans. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

Do you think playing against a computer hinders your ability to get better at chess? I never can play against anyone in person so all I really do is play against computers and they tend to make the best move every single time. I don't wanna sound like that's an excuse for my poor play but I can never seem to get an edge so I don't know if I really suck or if it's just because it's a computer.
