Playing Online vs. Playing In Person

I feel like I calculate differently and better when I'm playing in person with an actual board in front of me. However, I fail miserably in online games because I just cannot seem to focus when I play online. I tried changing the board settings, increasing time format, etc. but none of them seem to work, and this is a problem because now my main way of increasing rating is only through playing online tournaments. Does anyone have the same problem and/or some solution for it? 

I agree I don't concentrate when I'm playing on my phone, I'm much better otb. 

StumpyBlitzer, so how do you deal with that? (if you are seriously trying to rapidly improve)

OTB typically has longer time control than online so that is a contributing factor. Assuming you compared identical time control for OTB as online, then a difference probably just has to do with 2D versus 3D perception as literally your perspective of the chess board is different in person (3D) as on a flat screen (2D). 

Luckily, this can be easily fixed. The case of seeing things better 3D versus 2D (or better 2D versus 3D) has to do with operant conditioning. If you just practice the perspective you are worse with (in your case chess on a 2D screen), then you'll probably adjust in a week or two and see things the same way as the other format. 

Chess is chess. It is the same game whether online or in person.

If you could get a 32 inch monitor and a cheap desk top you should feel a lot more comfortable than on 6 inch screen.

I don't think that i would play on a 6 inch phone screen.
