Possibility of a Triple check???

Triple check is possible. But it's quite hard to pull off. For example, If a queen moved out of the way of a bishop to check and the bishop was checking too, and another dark squared bishop had a way then that would be triple check.

no you can't. if it is possible then show us a triple check position (and the moves leading up to it)

A triple check is doable if both players make a illegal move AND both players somehow disregard (accident or not) each of their moves as illegal.

Funny tho', all of a sudden, after both moves have been made ?....the move becomes LEGAL....and play continues !

So it is possible, but not in arrears....it'll hafta be posthumously.

****

Which brings up the very interesting condition where both players advertantly disregard FIDE rules and play one another w/ altered rules. Can the TD declare a misgame ? Or will the game hold & result count ?....e.g., both players agree to uncastling.

FIDE would freak out if they had no control over a sanctioned game & players started playing their own form of fantasy chess.

See ?....say a analogy to my condition on Post #17 was agreed to, yet not told to the TD, & they went on their merry way.

Remember, once play is altered, it holds, they say. So wwwwh (when where why what how) does the TD handle a couple a madmax go it alone's ?....a duel in the sandy blown outback ?

Here you go, I found you a triple check!

Atomic chess, which is I believe Wild 27 on ICC.  The rules are that if a pawn or piece is captured, then the capturing piece comes off the board, the captured piece comes off the board, and any piece (but not pawn) on the 8 squares that surround the captured piece, and that includes the King.  If the King is captured, that player loses.  So like 1.Nf3 Nc6 2.Ng5 Nb4 3.Nxf7 is 1-0 because the f7 pawn, White Knight, g8-Knight, f8-Bishop, and e8-King are all gone!

So in the diagram above, after 1.Nxe6, the White Knight, Black Knight, Black Bishop, Black Queen, and Black Rook all disappear, and Black is in Triple Check!

nice

Rasta_Jay

No.. Only in chess variants . Think of it this way, a piece has to uncover to discovered checks and give a check itself, which is impossible.

Slow_pawn

I ignored the people saying it can't be done and pulled out my set, determined to do it.

Well needless to say that they were right. I had some fun giving it a whirl for the last half hour, but yeah, no can do.

+Pawn override, but then the bishops would already be checking? Triple check isn't possible because u'd have to unblock 2 directions with the same piece, but both directions couldn't be on the same square, otherwise one piece would be blocking the other. It's impossible.

The_Ghostess_Lola

i know THAT !....read #44.

I believe Lola is correct, but this does not work well on the Internet. wink.png

Maybe not yet. We are trying to discover one. If the best programs do not find any fault in a position with triple check, then there must be some logic, right?

You're welcome to participate in the discussion. happy.png

in the bit where you type your comment there should be a grey bar above with some icons. click the icon that looks like a chess board. you can work the rest out for yourself.

Oh god. Could you take a snapshot and then send it? I am desperate.

gingerninja2003

although you probably haven't or it's an illegal position.
