I have been playing chess off and on for the last fifty years and I truly love the game. I am new to chess.com and have been playing chess mentor daily since I enrolled here. I am wondering how often a queen sacrifice is played and how often does it backfire? Thanks

you have to have some sort of advantage first (spatial etc) before you even begin considering a queen sac.otherwise it's just meaningless.

That is not a sacrafice, its just a combination. It's a combination when the moves to adventage is calculated, and a sacrafice is when its not calculated.

Dragec
no, it's a pseudo sacrifice: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacrifice_(chess)

Now I am more confused than ever. If the move to advantage is not calculated, why on earth would anyone do it?

Okay, bad explaination.

Combination is when you after a forced sequence of moves, will have a won game.

Sacrafice is when you give away a something, for another advantage. Like if you take a pawn in a gambit, you have not calculated a forced win, but people do it because of other advantages.

The thing is, combinations have a forced outcome. Sacrifices have compensation but it is unsure if it is enough to offset the sacrificial piece.

Sham sacrifices are still sacrifices.  Queen sacrifices are rare.  Here is a famous one:

OK, here is a somewhat longer term queen sacrifice.

I have found a beginner who very confident with his bullet skills. He is a player who comes from the Philippines. The guy is strong beginner with high skill proved it with his ridiculous move by losing his queen like a noob but he can make a checkmate without the queen. Awesome!!!

As a result, all the opponents are always willing to accept a rematch. A rare thing in the world of bullet, especially among the beginners. Laughing

Is he a Joey (GM gmjoey1) who use pseudonyms account?

Im sure that only GM can do that successfuly.  Ok, check out his profile at http://www.chess.com/members/view/endooo
