Black moved first in the past, I guess that's racist too.
That wouldn't be racist at all in my opinion

But the thing is, because people would still attribute the piece colours to skin pigmentation, they would still see it as "black people" moving first. Which is just stupid.
I agree with what was said before, that we can think of the pieces as army members, and the colours are the uniforms. It only makes sense.
Screw our generation's corrupted minds
To appease the people who hang on to past regressions like a child does with their security blanket (ironically there is a lot of whites in there) pick who goes first (by some well thought out and agreed to non racist way) then have that person blindfolded pick from behind him a piece, whatever color that piece may be will be first.
What I tell my students is that the reason we keep White moves first is because advanced players are used to having the king on the right for offence (first move) and on the left for defence (black).
LIke chess itself trolling requires a degree of skill to be successful.
Why when we poop , our feces is black ? It's racist. Even the snow is white,
Isn't it racist that white has to move first? Chess shouldn't be such a racist game. The first to move should be the winner of a coin flip
My pieces are silver and golden, I would never have the frozen idea of assigning kind of races to the colors. Doing so like you did is supporting racism in chess. Why do you do this?

If it's any consolation, black moves first in checkers (or red).
Before you set the pieces up turn the board 1/4, then you have the dark square in the right corner. Then set the pieces up like that and have black go 1st.
When I stare at the chess board long enough then look away I still see the board hanging in the air a second sometimes; I think the OP is seeing things that are not really there, but doesn't realize it like I do.
we got white vs black but what about the ( yellows asians ) we exist too
it's clear from the historical migratory patterns as well as physical appearance, that native americans and Eskimos are asian in origin. However, they are typically called the "red man". Basically by not agreeing on a descriptive skin color choice for all asians, you have unwittingly marginalized yourselves!

I'd say that's a better comment for the OP, but considering the number of people that got baited by the post, I'd be wrong.
Guys. Stop being dumb. Nobody cares who starts first. Make it green and purple if you want.
NOBODY CARES
(Except for me. I'm posting this.)
my fav chess board is the one with (white) silver vs (yellow) gold chess pieces
the game chess was made in the medieval age and the chess pieces
are the armys of that age technology and weapons and armys in shining armor
the chess piece represent 2 even matched armys in a battle of Strategy battle of 2 power full kings
i think whites vs yellow is much more realistic both asia and europe are even matched at this time
asian vs whites had armys of same power and technology
white moves first yellow second
its unrealistic to have whites vs blacks at this time the blacks are no match in army or technology
they where slaves or living in very primitive village
Now for those who are actually intelligent, there's some interesting history here. But to preface this history, I think it's obvious to anyone beyond a fifth grade comprehension level that the two colors in chess are not really black and white (oh god why does this phrase always use black first? reverse racism. stop oppressing me, me), but they are light and dark.
[EDITED FOR SPACE]
...Most likely white was just Lowenthal's color choice and that's why he first suggested it as the rule. Assuming something is racist without any context is just as ignorant as racism.
