Just played a game and it finished stalemate despite the fact i had a queen, bishop, knight and pawn. He had a king and a pawn, when i took his pawn it went to a draw. What the f@*k? How could i not win? If i was playing over-the-board i would have won...

... somebody enlighten me please.

Note- i was told i had 'insufficient material'- i had half an army descending on his king!!

The Black King has no legal squares to move to but is not in check.

The game is drawn by way of stalemate.

Simply read the rules of chess. Check under "stalemate"Wink

Now it seems so obvious when i look at it. But as for not reading the rules... i'm just lazy. A forum is almost like having thousands of personal assistants.

Here is a funny situation that is not a draw by those rules

when you are having these many pieces on board...always make sure the opposing king has atleast one square to go..if you want to box him in then do it with a check...

there are several interesting stalemate positions. For example 1.in king and pawn vs king if the pawn is in rook file and the lone king can get to the corresponding corner then it's a forced draw by the stalemating idea.... 2.in king and queen vs king and pawn,if the pawn is advanced to the 7th rank in bishop file and king is placed in the corner near to pawn then it's a forced draw for the queen can't capture the pawn due to stalemate... I hope it helped......
