I really doubt 3D chess pieces would cause any lag on a PC, but to your original qustion, I myself havent heard but then again i rarely play live chess.

Does anyone know the exact release date of Live Chess 2.0 (not the beta)?
A few weeks ago people have said that 2.0 will be coming out in a few weeks, and now a few weeks have passed.
I hope they add 3-D pieces, although this may cause too much lag for some computers...
