Repetition draw rule weird.

How does repetition draw rule actually work? I did repetition only twice but it was considered draw. 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nd4 4. Nxd4 exd4 5. d3 Bb4+ 6. Bd2 Bxd2+ 7. Nxd2 Qg5 8. Bc4 Qxg2 9. It is triple repetition of position

The position is the same after white moves 52, 54, and 56. Basically, no progress is being made so a draw can be claimed, and here it's automatic on live Chess

I find the points are weird for a draw. I purposely repeated the same move because my opponent could not figure out mate, but the game awarded him a point and took one from me. It doesn't seem right?

If the pawns are unmoved and the pieces end up in the same position three times then a draw can be claimed. Note. A position is the same even if it is the other knight or rook on the square previously occupied by the companion piece.

Elo points are awarded based on disparity of your rating. If you lost points for drawing then you were the higher rated player. Draw enough times you would both have the same rating.
