Hello, as a kid I used to be chess champion of all of elementary and middle school clubs. however I stopped playing for 4 years and when I played agin the the highschool chess club meeting, I lost all 3 games. I am trying out for the Varsity Chess team and am almost sure will not make it, can anyone help me or tell me how I can train to regain my old skill?

It looks like you're in the same position I was earlier this year, as I took a 4 year hiatus from chess. I would say that you should just play chess as much as possible, read articles about chess, and try chess tactics. Learn how to stop beginner (or sophomore) mistakes through playing and reading and you should fare well enough to get out of 'beginner' range, but chess tactics and experience will help you the most after you've gotten out of your "beginner slump" IMO.

Is 4 years really considered a "long time"?? Surprised (I am restarting after 35 years. Yes, I know... probably a hopeless cause.)

I learned how to play when I was about 10, but never really played until about a year or two ago.  So basically I'm just starting out.

I'm think that playing with people who know their tactics with me just improvising all fo the time is the reason I lose so much. What do you all think of that theory.

dude use tactics trainer, it will help loads, also read some of the great articals here, and dont be afraid of loosing, as a mater of fact, I have a motto, Go big or Go home, that means if I loose, I aint going without throwing every wrench I have into thier plans, here is where it actualy worked, and my opponent got caught up attempting to win my queen
