i want to try and go back to e4 openings but idk where to start, i recently had went to 2 otb tournaments with one being today and one last week which i won. today i got 4th but eh i am not so proud of my opening play. i have been using my vant krujis e3 opening as i liked to avoid theory and non complicated positions but now i really want to study and try to improve my skill as an actual chess player rather than being scared when doing e4

What kind of e4 positions are you looking for? I learned my prep from experience and various sources. 1.e4 has hundreds of serious variations, I might be able to help more if you could specify what you're looking for.

oh yeah, they make good videos where should i start with them?

Chessable is a fantastic resource. Hundreds of free courses, A lot of my filler prep comes from them. There's a lot of good stuff on there, and there's several I use for my 1.e4.

Much of the time, sidelines are played, but I imagine the higher you go in rating, the more mainlines/more prepped sidelines you'll get. I've only got a mainline Ruy once otb and 8 times online, so that goes to say memorization isn't sufficient.

I’m in the same boat. I have my pet opening (blackmar-diemer) and I now want to transition into the stage where I’m using real, sound openings instead of gimmicks. I like d4 so I might begin learning the Queen’s Gambit.
