I agree with this topic being completely inappropriate. It serves no purpose but to inflame most of the people who read it. Debating this topic in any environment is hard enough, but add a forum where people hide behind the secrecy of the internet and don't use their real names... nothing positive can come from these sorts of threads.

btw- zen buddhism is a philosophy, not a religion. so it is possible to be a christian (etc)  buddhist. that is far beyond the point anywho.

From Merriam Webster:
1 a: the state of a religious <a nun in her 20th year of religion> b (1): the service and worship of God or the supernatural (2): commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance
2: a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices
3 archaic : scrupulous conformity : conscientiousness
4: a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith

From Wikipedia:
A religion is a set of tenets and practices, often centered upon specific supernatural and moral claims about reality, the cosmos, and human nature, and often codified as prayer, ritual, or religious law.

I would say that whether your statement is correct or not is determined by what type of definition you choose concerning religion. Using either of the above definitions I would consider Buddhism a religion.

Furthermore, I think many religious people (even if Buddhism is not considered a religion) would disagree with you concerning the ability to reconcile the two. As parts of the fundamental laws of the "Big 3" are held to be only partially true (or a lesser truth) within buddhism vs. fundamentally true in the religions.

I can't believe this is still going.  How many threads can we get locked in one weekend?
