Sexist Comments Are Not Appropriate

The only women I am concerned about while playing chess are the Queens. I agree Hugh_T

No. Its proven that women are not good as men at chess. Thats why some guys don't like to be beaten by girls. Thats it. They are not sexist, jeesus, they don't claim that girls should not play chess ! Girls you have to relax here, lol:)

I think that the only "proof" that men are genetically superior in chess to women comes from biased statistics rooted in centuries when only men played.  I suppose you think that all female lawyers and doctors are inferior to their male counterparts as well.  Wake up and join the 21st Century!!

And if you're going to claim an intellectual superiority, you might want to learn how to use a spelling and grammar checker 1st.  Any male who has a problem losing to a female is obviously insecure with his own masculinity.  And anyone who feels that they should win anything based solely on their gender is by definition sexist.

We know that this argument is gonna go on and on..jeez give it a rest. There'll always be people who think girls suck at chess, and people who believe that it is not true. Now stop trying to enforce each others' views on each other. That will lead to another argument and another and so on..

(Personally, I think some girls are really good at chess and some are not..the same as men. It's not as if all guys are good at chess eh? I honestly dont care what is proven and not.  )

I was raised as a "southern gentleman" and was taught "good manners" as well. This means I open doors for females (but not only females) and often pick up anything they might drop and always carry anything heavy to keep my wife (and not only her)  from having to , and "watch my mouth" more when females are present than when they are not. I guess today all that is considered "sexist"?! If so, I believe the world has  gone completely nuts.

Reb? How about insane!?

I don't think this quote would stand up to a logical parsing and debate.

It's subjective, logic takes a back seat.

some people find chivalry sexist, the statement is chivalrous, ergo to some, the statement may be self-defeating.  i'm not saying he's wrong, or the sentiment is ill-conceived.

LOL... are you sorry you started this originally well meaning discussion Hugh?  Wink

Was about to respond the same way you did Reb but no need.  Very well said.

SkyChess, somewhere in Singapore.

What have you been smoking?  I thought drugs were illegal in Singapore?  There is no such statistic as you mention.  The idea that boys are worse chess players because they spend time on other sports is lame, and totally unsupported by your imaginary statistics.  That stat must have floated by in your pipe dreams.

does anyone know how many male grandmasters there are and how many female grandmasters there are? i am not trying to fuel the argument, i am just curious

Kevindubrow

This thread seems to have the point that men are sexist, therefore self-defeating.

shehab577

my frieands the chess for all people male or female

the chess for those who can understand it \thats all

glubsch

I'm sure many sexist remarks such as "I just lost against a gurl" come from insecure, immature, little teenies.

When my dog bites you, do you look at the gender?

TheOldReb

I always hated that there were so few females playing chess during the 25 years I played in the USA. I wish the game was more popular among women, but its not. Why ? I think its because women are more practical than men and have more important things to do. My wife is crazy about chess and she is bishopblues here and that makes me as happy as a hog in mud ! I have been beaten by female players often enough to NEVER be bothered by "losing to a girl" ! Smile

Small Minds = Small Shoe Size = Small (fill in the blanks). So the gloves come off and the fight gets dirty. I'm not taking the high road. You guys who think "women are mearly things," you might try having a girl friend or maybe you do (if inflatable dolls count). I would venture to guess that all of your action on a Saturday night consists of internet porn. OF course that could be expected from a person whose IQ is only matched in life by their shoe size. I pity your tiny unpopulated (by intelligent though) brain. You were probably beaten up in high school and your revenge has been the ability to make semi-intelligent comments on the internet. While the imaginary audience that resides in your pea sized brain applauds your attempt at wit, we who actually have functioning cranial regions do not.  If you want to be clever, look at Rael's comment to Barbara. That's funny. That's not insulting. Of course those two have real intelligence.

In all seriousness I'm glad to see some folks don't appreciate rudeness. For those of you who didn't like what I just said, well too bad. It's not a lot of fun when you're on the recieving end.

this topic had been raised before in this site under different title, it reminds us of"white man cant jump".....and "why dont we have a white man  winning a 100 m running race".....i used to be   basketball player and hated   this staff.....recently i passed by some articles talking about scientific evidence that   due to differences in the exchange of oxygen in the muscles betwwen people with  dark skin and those with white skin , makes it is more PROBABLE that those with dark skin to excell in such sports.......its matter of probability .....and until there is a similar scientific evidence due to physiological differences that makes the PROBABILITY of excelling in chess is more in men, so nobody can say that with real objective , statistics may be due to plenty of reasons ........so i suggest that these types of comments fall under racism, that we should refrain from committing

Ah, another pseudo-intellectual treatment of gender issues as brought to us by too many people that watch Oprah.  Yes, any male who teases a male for "getting beaten by a girl" is, according to this thread, at once ignorant, misogynistic, sexist, chauvinistic, etc.  And then you have the posts talking about how much better women are than men anyway... as though that in itself isn't precisely the same thing.  How these people can claim the intellectual high ground and then say 'if you tease a girl you have a small weenie' (see post #53) is beyond hypocritical.

Which leaves me to wonder... when my wife beats me at chess and then teases me for "being beaten by a girl" is she a chauvinistic misogynist?

Pardon my ignorant, sexist, obviously less-preferred-portion-of-the-gene-pool view here, but it seems the person being teased in this manner should be angry because some players ganged up on him to make him feel bad.  They were bullies.  That's the bottom line.  Making bullies into targets of your particular political cause just gives them more power than they deserve.  They weren't denigrating women.  They weren't attacking him with the purpose of 'holding our sisters down.'  They were being bullies and trying to make themselves feel better by ganging up on someone else.  That's it.

How about you stay on task and get rid of the bullies?
